    Hey all,

Was experimenting with some list building and have been trying 1 or 2 units of ten warriors w/jaguar as chaff killers and flankers. It actually worked some what ok.

I want to know if others have tried it in 9th and also if some has a link to the old thread that went into it for 8th.

    Cheers

If you want small mobile flanking units, isn't it better to get the the poisoned skink in core? you get better movement, smaller and more agile bases, some shooting and close combat poison which could inflict a wound or two to bigger things. You are looking at 95 points of warriors versus 70 points of poison skinks or 96 points for 14 poison skinks.

All the points you make are right, and I still use 2 units of skinks with poison. But, sometimes (maybe meta) that t2 just doesn't help. Think of the 10 block more as a detachment unit from the old empire block, more so than a flanker. They are there for the toughness and extra armour.

I preferred units of 12 or 13, back in 6th edition when MSU Saurus where all the rage.

I recently included a unit of 16 with HW/S, full command and Jaguar. My plan was to use them to secure objectives or be a bunker for my high priest on palanquin (nature).
In my last game they flanked a unit of Dragon Princes incl. BSB with were stuck on my Steg BSB and broke them (charge, big flank, standard, 2 ranks =+6) and manage to break and kill a 20 man unit of seaguard (above average rolling on my part). Pretty lucky but also impressive.

My 35 HW/S, full command and Piranha Saurus use the veteran standard with the Gleaming Icon. I might bump the little unit up to 20 and give the movement banner. Does it stack with Jaguar? Voila, movement 6 Saurus :D

In my last game 30 model big spear warriors went up against 20 phoenix guards + BSB (with +2S sword) and Prince (+3S sword, 4+ ward). I even had my taurosaur chief with spear of the stampede to join in on the fun. Except that the fun was mostly for my opponent. Those elven pricks are hard to kill and when they boost their output with 7 attacks hitting at 2+ wounding at 2+ it starts to hurt :D

Anyway, while I do not think a straight up MSU SW army will be a common sight I think we'll see more and more single SW drops. They're hard to remove for the points spend and can easily grap hold of an objective.

And that is why I never field spear saurus, especially at 2pts per, the benefit of parry to our saurus is massive as it practically functions as a nurgle mark against almost all of our enemies units.

Well its a choice of offensive or defensive power.
I tend to go with shields but AP1, extra rank of fighting and lethalstrike on many strong unit types isnt exactly a bad deal :D

haven't tried MSU Saurus yet, but looking at how quickly my opponents demolish large blocks of them I am hesitating :/
I might try them soon though, as I have an experimental list in where they might have a place.

    if not...
    Go go september update!

    @protector
I am sending you a pm more or less on this subject.

Th September update is mostly intended to fix major issues found during ETC and the ETC warm ups.

I agree with the OP, 10 unit jaguar saurus are great as flankers/chaff killers. Any junky chaff can chew through skinks, but it takes some more elite chaff to deal with saurus. The trouble is that the 10 man unit will do you no good at disrupting steadfast because you can expect at least 1 saurus to die.

Maybe i just prefer to be on the offence but i field spears every game.
    30 saurus with spears 6wide 5 deep + serpant is 31 attacks.
Put a scarvet in there with that banner of mixowhatever (hatred)
And support the unit with the snake alter
    now you have 30+ attacks
    reroll 1s
    reroll misses
    and poison 5+

Runs through most things like a steam train

I have 714 points that I want to spend on MSU warriors. How would you spend them?

One option would be 3 blocks of 12 with jaguar totem and no command whatsoever. That fits 714 points exactly. Or would it be a better idea to go down to 10 in each unit and give them command group? or a mix of the two options?

I don't have much experience with the MSU tactica, I have always been the deathstar type of guy :p any comments is very much appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

@Okaman I like that build, but how do you get Poison 5+? The alter gives Poison 6+ to units in 6" (which is made up to 5+ if a unit already has poison). Where does the initial 6+ poison come from? What am I missing?
