So after years of exile from Warhammer I finally returned to the hobby, and I decided to start up an army of lizardmen since I like the way they look and I also had quite a few models lying around collecting dust since I was a kid.

Anyways, I painted a test model and I was quite pleased with how it turned out (I only painted the skin and scales, so never mind the other parts of the model as those were painted like 13-15 years ago or so), and now I want some help to decide on what the shields should look like. So I painted a shield, but I don't know if the contrast is too small? What do you guys think? Have any suggestions for my painting scheme?

Looks good! I would paint the eyes a much brighter colour to really make them stand out I like the lava/fire theme on the scales.

Looking good, could you do the shields red in the centre scale then gradually paint each scale a different shade red/orange to yellow at the edge, a lot of work but would look amazing.

So I started batch painting some saurus warriors and I realized that I quite liked the look of red scales instead of the lava ones on the newer models. Finished five of them tonight and here's how they turned out. Now I just need to figure out what to do with the bases. My original thought was sort of a stony base with lava cracks, but I just think that there will be too much grey on the models for that to work.

Anyways here is how they turned out. Luckily the flaws are less visible in reality than they are in the pictures, so I am actually quite pleased with these for being rank and file models. Also for some reason the eyes are really dark in the pictures, they are actually painted temple guard blue and highlighted up. Guess it has to do with my photo skills :D

I don't normally like the scaly hide shields but I like yours. Excellent coloration and shading.
