With the death of Warhammer Fantasy, our community has been somewhat fragmented. I'm just wondering how everyone plans to use their Lizardmen army moving forward.

Looking at the various game systems in which Lizardmen can be fielded, these are my personal feelings...

    • 8th Edition - this is my go to game. There is a good chance that I stick with it for the foreseeable future (either in its current state or perhaps with a tweak or two). At the moment 8th edition is KING.
    • Oldhammer - I can't really see myself getting into an edition prior to 8th. I did enjoy 7th, but I find the army balance superior in 8th.
    • 9th Age - This is the only really true "competitor" that might dethrone 8th edition for me. There are a couple of things that I really dislike in the beta release, but if those are rectified then I can see the possibility that 9th Age becomes my main game system for my Lizardmen.
    • Kings of War - there is an outside chance that this could supplant 8th edition, but it is unlikely. The simplistic magic phase system is a huge drawback for me.
    • Age of Sigmar - there is no chance of me bringing my Lizards into this game system. I personally despise the game and hold negative feelings towards GW for replacing my beloved Warhammer Fantasy game with what I feel is a shadow of its former self.
    • Some other wargame - I can't see myself starting another game system.

Those are my personal views/plans for my gaming hobby, I'm curious to see what everyone else thinks.

    Vote and discuss! :)

    Hi there!
I see my. Lizards mostly played in aos. For the simple reason that I don't know anyone who is playing except the gw in town... I would rather play 9th or kow or at least have the option to choose from the three but don't know anybody playing. The guys I used to play with all dropped the hobby years ago... May be I'll find some people to play with if looking around in the gw-store and at some other places... To find the time is really a problem for me at the moment :(

BTW anybody here from Dortmund Germany?! ;)

    Edit: FIRST!

That's tough situation. Is there an independent local gaming store anywhere near where you live? They will probably have different games going on, although there is no guarantee that 9th Age or KoW will be among them. At the very least it's worth a try.

I know one... Maybe two... But I think the second is mainly about magic the gathering and other card games. The biggest problem for me is to find the time to go there and have a look...

I feel like I started collecting Warhammer at the worst time possible: near the conclusion of the End Times and right before the AoS launch. At the time, I was playing Island of Blood scenarios at the local GW to experience 8th edition, but by the time I had a 500 point list painted, the 8th edition books were being removed off the shelves and AoS was being advocated. As such, I am miffed over how I had bought/tailored 1500 points of Skaven and 3000 points of Lizardmen for a game that is no longer supported and has no direct successor.

After trying AoS, I have found the game to be alright for a now-and-then experience, but the difficulty of finding opponents remains my biggest issue. Of the 3 independent retailers that carry GW products in my city, one is liquidating his stock and does not host events while the other two have stopped Warhammer-specific event days (including those for 40k). As such, I've been going to the GW more often in hopes of using my lizards, but finding games on the days I go seem to be hit and miss. One of the independent retailers is considering 8th edition events once a month or replacing WFB with KoW, but between the whole End Times bait and switch, AoS, Chessex, and my late Saurus cowboy commission, I am considering giving up miniature gaming for good.

I'm very much impressed with 9th Age (flaws and all) and would like to see it become the true successor to 8th Edition. I'm between staying with 8th (cause I can still get came in) and 9th age (cause i like the magic rules much better).

9th Age definitely has some great potential. I just hope they fix the Slann and the mechanic by which various monster mounts are handled.

I'm concerned about those things too. But i'm certain that with Pinktaco being our man in the 9th Age team, there a good chance for those issues to be fixed :)

I agree, having Pinktaco representing our interests is very encouraging indeed. It will be curious to see how each of the armies balance out against each other. That's what will make it difficult. It is easy to suggest changes relative to the current 8th edition meta, but much more difficult to do so when we don't know what changes others are recommending for the other armies.

I'm really looking forward to what they come up with, but for the time being 8th edition is still my reigning champ.

I voted Age of Sigmar (my reasons for liking it are in other posts so I won't go into it here), but realistically they will probably end up being painted and shelved in a display cabinet. Once I have a cabinet that is....

Well, because I have all my games down at the workshop. I kinda have to play AoS, I haven't had a game since the two in one day game. 2 vs 2 so it's been a while.
At the moment, I'm just painting models and making up models for units and stuff that doesn't exist anymore (Skink Horned One riders, currently planning a Coatl conversion)

Well I may sell my Dark Elves to make way for my growing Chaos Band, my Lizards are going no where because I love them too much but and @NIGHTBRINGER will hate me for this, they may get new round bases!

But keeping them on square bases allows me to play 8th or 9th when my son is a bit older, see what I did there ;)

I voted AOS as I really enjoy the mix of models you can field.

    Hahaha! :p

That's the best strategy since you can still play AoS on squares but you keep your options open for 8th, 9th & KoW. Plus you don't have to go through all the tedious work removing bases and risking damage to your models.

To those of you who are continuing 8th, playing 9th, or trying KoW, do you guys have friends or a local gaming group that is/are willing to do the same?

I plan to continue with 8th (or possibly 9th Age... depending on the final revisions after the beta). At the moment my only gaming opponent is my wife. Just about all my friends have left the hobby :( (way before AoS, so I can't blame AoS for that one!). Aside from that, there are a few members on this forum that help keep the flame alive.

As of the moment for 9th, Just myself and my girlfriend (who is just starting an new army). For 8th, there a few people in my area that do, but don't meet very often do to work and school. I'm trying to convince them to join 9th so we can help with play testing. Either way. I'll never go for AoS.
