    Hello everyone.
First off: I am a complete beginner when it comes to miniatures. I once painted a few orcs with a buddy, but that was over a decade ago. Somehow I stumbled over WH again, just in time vor the re-release of the lizardmen so I thought to myself: I'm gonna build an army!
I am mostly interested in assembling and painting the minis, not sure yet if I want to play any tournaments in the future. However I thought I should start by getting to know the lizards better, so the obvious first step was...

... buying the new battletome. I read through it already and can't wait to begin painting. This will have to wait until after Christmas though, I won't find the time before and don't want to rush the process. In the meantime I am already slowly buying all the tools I will need and thinking about colour schemes. This is what I came up this so far:

The colours don't match perfectly, I am to go for a lighter blue, lighter gold and darker red. But I guess you'll have to wait until I post the first pictures.
Until then I will keep digging through the forums looking for more inspiration. Also any feedback is definitely welcome as I have a lot to learn.

P.S.: Since I am constantly talking about WH my girlfriend started to take an interest as well. So far she really likes the Skaven, especially the new Pestilens models. I am thinking about getting her a box of plague monks so we can paint together.

This look is classic and very effective! Light blue will look really good I think! And skaven is a fun army, your girlfriend will probably really enjoy them! Go for the pague monks and build a pestilenz clawpack. Friend of mine is doing that, can be pretty killer!

Interesting scheme, I would love to see how it looks on your models. And definitely try to get your girlfriend interested on miniatures as well, it's great fun to paint and play together!

I can't wait to see your first models when they are done. I think this scheme will look very good in paint.

Yes! Definitely get her into it!

Just a small update: Gathering paints, tools etc is going well, I may be ready to start painting shortly after Christmas. There's gonna be a regiment of Saurus Warriors and probably a Skink Starpriest, I put those on my wishlist for Santa. Also I'm taking part in the r/Warhammer Secret Santa, so who knows what awaits me there.
Also bad news for my buddy but potentially good news for me: Someone smashed his car's window. BUT he kept the broken glass and I thought I could maybe use it to decorate my bases. Just as small details. The glass is shattered very fine (5 mm - 1 cm a piece) and with the green/blue tint it looks like crystal. What do you guys think?

While the glass sounds like it's look highly effective, I'm not sure it's a wise choice for modelling.
I know car window glass breaks into "chunks" rather than "slivers", but it can still be very sharp, particularly the fine bits that break away.
You may also have trouble glueing it onto bases.
If you want crystals on your bases is look online for purpose made materials, they should be more suitable.

Of course I woud have to be very careful with sharp edges and probably use pincers to handle them.
As to the point of glueing you might be right. Maybe I could try to fixate them with a texture paint (eg Lustrian Undergrowth) and add white glue, not sure yet. Thought about just putting one or two on each base.
Originally I wasn't going for crystals, just when I saw it yesterday I immediately thought it would look great.

Experiment attaching a few samples to some spare bases, glueing glass is generally always a pain in the ass. Silicone would do it, but it'd make a horrid mess.
Perhaps an alternative would be to find some transparent acrylic and go at it with a hammer? Then you could just use poly cement/GW plastic glue?

Sounds good! I'll definitely try it out on spare bases to see if it works.
Acrylic sounds like a good idea too, don't know how it breaks though.

I think it varies, I know citadel grey plastic is a type of plastic. But then there's some that I've use that's transparent (like the plastic used for flying bases) that's far more brittle.

    Alright, got the glass:
Some shards are as big as the base (32 mm), but they break up easily, so the smalles ones are just a few mm. They could look like a frozen lake maybe, still unsure if I'm gonna try using them in any way.

Also my workstation is almost fully equipped now:
A few tools are still waiting at my parent's house, there's gonna be Saurus Warriors, a Skink Starpriest and of course plenty of colours after christmas and then I'm gonna start painting.

Also took part in the r/Warhammer Secret Santa and sent this:
Still waiting on what I am gonna get though.

And lastly, I did a little shopping and bought this little lady:

Thought about painting her up for my girlfriend when I have a little more practice.

Totally forgot I wanted to answer to your comment, sorry. I think I will be getting the starter pack at some point, too. It's such great value and I actually really like the Stormcast Eternals (contrary to what most people think of them). Please share your progress on them and the Kb too, I'd definitely be interested to see them, even though they aren't our beloved lizzies.
