So this is the first Saurus Warrior (first model even) that I've painted in around 10 years, not really much of an artist I just wanted to share my work, maybe I can get some good feedback or ideas :).

I think this turned out okay, but maybe I could make the scales a deeper blue. Just a prototype.

So I started by using a black spray paint for the undercoat.

I basecoated skin and scales with sotek green and washed it with drakenhof nightshade. I highlighted the skin and scales with temple guard blue.

I then basecoated the shield with mephiston red and washed it with nurn oil.

The teeth, bone, etc. was basecoated with baneblade brown followed by a highlight with rakarth flesh. I then washed it with agrax earthshade. Followed by more highlights with rakarth flesh and finaly ushabti bone.

The eyeballs were painted on with yriel yellow and the black pupils with abaddon black.

For the gold, I used retribution armor as the base, I washed it with Reikland fleshshade and then highlighted the edges with liberator gold.

The final and reviewed color scheme: IMG_20160118_115939-2.jpg

Looks good, I agree a darker blue would help seperate the scales from the skin you could go a different colour, mine are blue skin then purple scales have a look through my blog for some ideas but great work so far.

Thanks! I looked through your blog quickly, some of your models look incredible, I really like how you painted your EOG, especially the scales & bones.

I was thinking I could go with maybe Kantor blue for the scales, and wash it with the same wash I use for the skin, drakenhof nightshade. Do you think that could be a good color? What did you use for the blue shields on your cavalry units?

Thanks, I think I used Macrage blue or what ever it's called but you can use any dark blue, you could add a spot of white into your blue for final highlights mix it 2 drops blue 1 white and a spot of water, use an old plate for mixing.

So I repainted one of my models and used macrage blue as the basepaint for the scales, washed it with nurn oil and then I mixed the blue with white (tried to mix it 2d blue, 1d white) and this is how the result turned out! Im really happy with the result and I'm going to keep going with it! Once again, thanks for the advice.

That looks really good, just look at the claws on his feet if you have Screaming skull paint from the tip to about 1/2 then once dry just do the tip in pure white.

    But Fantastic so far :)

I finished another four warriors, I also ended up adding another layer of mephiston red after the wash on the shield, which in my opinion made it look a bit better! Took some photos, may or may not be all the models, just took a few from different angles, sorry for the bad lightning and quality of the photos. :p

I think I took to much wash this time when washing the skin which shows in some areas on the models. Another thing that I weren't to happy about was in what order I painted the model. Instead of completing the skin earlier I ended up adding the "Temple guard blue" to the skin after almost finishing all the details, this was stupid and I don't think I'll do that again.

I don't have a screaming skull so I mixed ushabti bone with rakarth flesh 50/50 and did the tip in ceramic white.

Still trying to figure out how I am going to paint my Saurus knights, currently leaning towards making the scales green/dark green and and the skin on the belly etc. in a lighter green. Any good ideas?
