    Hi all,

I have been a dweller, ocasional poster and theoretical advice giver since the old Pyramid Vault days, but I've never REALLY posted anything other than my own cerebral leakage. I done some painting for the first time in months over the weekend and I think it's about time I make a painting blog to keep up my motivation.

Since I'm mostly a 40k-er (and all my Lizardmen are in storage) a lot of this stuff will be non-AoS for the meantime. I play Chaos Space Marines and have been gifted with some summonable daemons. This first lot of Plaguebearers was given to me by my lovely wife as a Christmas present.

This is actually their second paint job - I really hated how they came out first time round. The recipe is pretty basic: Eshin grey basecoat, Badab Black wash, two drybrushes of Skull White.

How I done the swords is lost in time and space, but a drybrush of Snot Green and edge highlight of Moot Green was part of it. Sadly my Moot Green is no more, so I'm really hoping I don't need to redo any of the blades.

The unit champ up the back was a test model for the white scheme (why did I test on the champ?!) but he turned out pretty craptacular, so he's on the benches until the rest are finished.

I've painted the icon for the icon bearer but didn't think to take a snap. I'll include that in (hopefully) next weeks update.

These guys look awesome! That white is really amazing, sickly but sick, you know? These look so cool! And those grrleen blades just look fantastic.

Thanks! I'm really happy with the blades. I wanted them to look like Warpstone and it came out really well. So well in fact that I've decided that all Daemonic units I field will have warpstone weapons. The white looks a lot chalkier in person but I think another one or two rounds with Skull White will remedy that.

My inspiration is partly drawn from that creepy-ass boss from Ocarina of Time at the bottom of the well. These fellows are my "Well Daemons" and I hope to make bases to match that theme once they're done.

Yep you definitely succeeded in reminding me of the dead hand from ocarina of time!

@Fhanados excellent choice of models. I've been willing to have a go at nurgle for a while too, and one of the problems I thought of was the blades as i'm not a fan of them… you just gave me avery good example of what they have to offer.
Plus, 40k stuff is awesome. Keep going :D

That skin scheme is excellent!! I like how it´s so different form the usual brown-green that people paint nurgle!

No progress this weekend I'm afraid but we did rearrange our bedrooms so there's now more space so I'm hoping I'll be able to work on them during the week.

    @Bowser - Thanks! I'm glad they're recognisable.

@Toltecatl - I'm actually not a big fan of Nurgle, Tzeentch and Khorne are my preferred Chaos Gods. That said I do like the current Plaguebearer models and Nurgle is always a competitive choice. Once they're painted these fellows will see the field pretty often I think.

@Jorgik - Thank you for your kind words. I like the pale fleshy green on the box art but I would have needed another 5-6 new paints to pull it off, which is money I don't really have (after spending $200+ on terrain...) and frankly it's a bit beyond my skills to pull off. Anyway I think the white is a nice change of pace and am thinking of making my Bloodletters black in contrast.

Tzeench sure is beautiful and, i hear, deadly efficient. Not a huge fan of most of the new khorne models though. Actually i don't know much about them gamewise, but aesthetically the eavy metal take on nurgle often looks wonderful. These guys know how to use a glaze…

They look really cool, what terrain did you blow $200 on?

@Toltecatl - I love the current bloodletters, juggers and 'thirsters but I don't like the skull cannon/throne at all. A friend of mine who used to run a pure Daemon army hasn't played in about 10 years and has said I can look after his army on a permanent basis. It needs a lot of work done but once I get it up to scratch I could easily start running a Daemonkin warband or just keeping them on the side for summoning.

@Jorgik - I bought the old Arcane Ruins set from GW direct (which was about $60 I think) and picked up the storm of magic terrain with the throne and the swirly fire tornado from ebay. I always liked the fulcrums and soon as they went out of production I hated myself for not getting them! I still want the other set with the stairs but I don't really want to spring another $120+ on it. My wife is cranky enough at me as it is with all my boxes of stuff accumulating!

My birthday was not long ago (thus my spending splurge!) so the boxes are piling higher! I've got a box of Chaos Raptors, Chaos Bikers, 2 Forgefiends, Bloodletters and 2 Imperial Knights to get through. That's not counting 20 or so half built Chaos Marines, 3 Hellbrutes, 3 Rhinos, a Vindicator and a Daemon Prince which are in various stages of WIP. No wonder she hates my hobby!

    Progress!

The red is a vallejo one that I have a good 3 bottles or so of. I'm not a big fan of it - I needed to water it down a lot and do a few coats to get halfway decent coverage. I guess I'm spoiled by GW these days.

The icon was really fun to paint. Leadbelcher heavily drybrushed over black with dabs of Dwarf Bronze. The whole thing was given a coat of Nihlak Oxide (although I should have used more in retrospect) and a dab of Ryza Rust.

Last, and possibly least, is my test model. Still don't really like this guy but when mixed in with the rest of the unit the difference isn't too noticeable.

I'm hoping to get them finished tonight, then all that's left is a dip in some quickshade and the bases.

They all look great but I think if you just did a highlight on the end of each blade with yellow it would add a bit more pop, I really like what you have done with these models in fact you have given me an idea for my ghouls.

Thanks for the comments guys! I'm really pleased with how the icon is turning out. It was a lot of fun to paint and is kind of a test for a bigger project I'll be working on soon. I might apply the same technique to the metal on my Chaos Space Marines to give them a grittier feeling. I'm sorely tempted to repaint my Word Bearers as an Iron Warriors offshoot - but then again not a week goes by when I flip-flop on what legion I like best.
