Hello all! My name is Zheddikus and I got into AoS about 3 weeks ago. I spent the first two weeks assembling a Lizardmen Battalion Box and a "Start Collecting!" Box. And over the last week I have been painting.
Today I finished painting all of my saurus warriors and figured it was time to start posting pics of the miniatures. 20160722_214411.jpg

These are my first attempts at the base coats.

These are the "finished" products of the first unit. Because I still need to figure out how i want to base them and do some highlights that will be done later.

Here is the second unit made.

An up close look at one of them.

More to come over the next couple of weeks. Comments and advice are much appreciated.

    Thanks!

Look good so far, you could paint the inlay of the weapons the same colour as the shield to break up the gold.

Listen to what @Crowsfoot says! ;)

Nice choice of colours! Looks really nice! Maybe you could make the teeth a bit brighter and I think yellow eyes would look good on them...

The trick to highlighting red is to add yellow instead of white.

Another trick is glaze with yellow when finished but this may be better when your a bit more experienced.

I really recommend glazing! It really helps to achieve a nice smooth colouration... You can really highlight in bright colours and the glaze tones it down to fit the base colour. That's how I do the skin on all my models at the moment... ;)

I like that idea. Brings the models together more.

After two washes I see what you mean. And I like the idea of yellow eyes on these guys!

Just like with the eyes I wasn't even thinking yellow.

I will look into glazing as well. Thanks for all the advise.

I'm a fan of the red as well! It's much more common to see blue or green dinos, so it's awesome to see something new!

    And I am back!

So I tried glazing and yellow highlights but they didn't turn out well. I did end up using Wild Rider Red for highlights. Added blue to the inlays of the swords. Here is the result

Next up I have been working on my Temple Gaurds (taking a break from them for a bit to update this)

Thats like 5 times the painted models that I have!!! Really interesting suggestions here, looking forward to the finished models.

BTW: How come you not using those nice MEAT offers? Doing and eating ribs is amazing :D

I need to try this, because I still in phase one of highlights. Add a little white.

It depends on what you want to achieve. If you highlight with white you´ll end up with a pinkish skin tone. If you highlight with yellow it will drag more attention but will resemble more to fire. I like to highlight red with orange (the difference with yellow is small though, as after you run out of oranges you use yellows to continue highlighting :joyful:)

Personally I wouldn't change them but I think I like the simple pallet - it has striking colours already

More to come either later tonight or tomorrow morning. Can't wait for them to be fully finished. Haven't even touched the riders or the bloat toad yet. Those will most likely be Friday's project.
