Hello everyone! I'm a new player to Warhammer Age of Sigmar and decided to play using the Seraphon because I love the way they look and the idea behind them. My local community recently had a start collecting tournament day geared for new players and players learning Age of Sigmar. The community wants to do another one next month with a 1000pt army eventually leading up to monthly at 2000pts. I had a lot of fun and have decided to continue on expanding my army. I am seeking advice on building a decent army since the books don't make a whole lot of sense to me just yet. I am starting from my start collecting box and was thinking about going with the following for a 1000pt army but am not sure how well they will work out. 1 Scar Veteran on Carnosaur 1 Slann Starmaster 1 Astrolith Bearer 5 Saurus Knights (Lances) 20 Saurus Warriors (Spears) Thanks in advance for any and all help!
This isn't too bad, you're going to have to hit fast and hard with this one. What models doyou have built?
So far I have everything but the scar vet built but everything is not primed or painted so changes wouldn't be difficult. I don't have the astrolith bearer yet either I was going to pick him up if the units would work well together.
The astrolith bearer buffs both the slann and everything else in your army. But you have to plant him, so once he's withn 10" of the bulk of the action this should work perfectly. The plus 1 to casting os going to help, and when you get the great drake constellation you will get a lot of damage in.
I looked up Astrolith Bearer and noticed its sold out right now. I also saw that people make there own custom ones? Are these ok to use when playing or do people frown upon that?
Most people are okay with it as long as it looks like what it's supposed to. Very few people will give you trouble for a decent conversion.
In Europe, it seems still available. From my Skink player point of view, Astrolith is a must have, but it's Saurus mini... that 's why i'll use a Krox or maybe some lizards/skinks to hold it. As long as i use the right base size (40mm i guess) but that seems not a problem for players. I've played in tournament a skink holding a Tau Rifle, an ancien artefact projecting killing "light", as described in the book (but it was a classic magical rod as the winged priest today). Not a problem as long it's mean something and can "look like" the rules and the mini profile.
Cool I think I will be making a custom one soon then if it does not become available near me in time. Thanks for the help guys
The major weakness that I see here is that there just aren't many models. If your progression tourney will be running scenarios out of the General's Handbook etc. a lot of those scenarios require you to capture and hold objectives which this list will have a very difficult time doing. (A lot of new objectives count models as opposed to just securing an objective with just a unit). Slaan Starmaster just feels out of place at 1k points to me - very expensive. 260 points is over 25% of your army total. If you dont already have the model, personally I feel he would be a good addition as you approach the 2k point games
I agree with Mogstar, you currently have a lot of points in 2 units (Slann and Carno). I'm also a new player and after my first two matches (and a lot of Reading on the forum and the codex) I am using this 1000 points list: Sunblood (general) (120) Scar veteran on Carnosaur (260) Skink starpriest (100) 20 saurus warriors, Spears (200) 10 saurus guard (200) 5 knights (120) Depending on the opponent I switch the Carnosaur out for an Eternity Warden and 5 more Saurus guards. The Sunblood command ability could buff ALL of the attacks of the carnosaur. (See Thead in tactics) And buff the knights. Keep the starpriest with the guard as they will receive +1 save. The starpriest will debuff your biggest thread and can give your guard a Nice damage boost. For the construction of the scar vet I would suggest using magnets for his upper body, so you can later on switch the body for an Old blood (If needed)
I want to run a more aggressive army and from what I read the Guard are more defensive (I could be wrong about this). Maybe for the 1000 pt army I could run one of the following and save the slann for when we hit 2k points Sunblood (general) (120) Scar veteran on Carnosaur (260) 50 saurus warriors, Spears (500) 5 knights (120) (1000 Total) or Sunblood (general) (120) Scar veteran on Carnosaur (260) 30 saurus warriors, Spears (300) 10 knights (240) (920 Total)
I like the first list a bit better, but you sttill only have four units. Could go bad for you quick. The second list I would split rhe cold ones into two groups of five, drop 10 saurus and put in a scar vet on cold one. Charge with a group of knights retreat charge with the other knights and then let the warriors clean up or claim objectives.
Astrolith bearers aren't hard to make. I think I built mine with a guard banner pole, a couple of things off the saurus cavalry sprue, some glyph things, and a ornate plate from a stegadon sprue. Overall looks pretty decent and didn't take all that much effort saves some dinero too For 1k though, hes a model that improves as you go higher. You can get similar effects out of command abilities from units like the scar vets while having a unit that can actually do something to help you at 1k points. Just like the slann, I'd imagine astrolith bearers appearing around the 1750 point area
I've been wanting to make one for skinks / kroxigor to hold. I like horde type armies so skinks are a lot of fun for me. Love it!
I 've read that quite a lot as a suggestion but I am missing something. Where is the rule that allows our saurus knights retreat while in battle so the other group can charge in ?
In the main rules, you can simply retreat in your Movement phase, you can't charge with the same unit, I apologize if I was unclear. 1 charges, then retreats next movement phase, and the second unit charges in. Repeat.
