So as the title says I'm new to AoS and wanted to give it a shot. There is a tournament coming up in my area figured it was as good a time as any. Want to a competitive list, I'm gearing towards a more defensive list at the moment. This list is heavily based off of a tutorial in a thread on here, don't recall which.

    What I came up with:
    Lords-
    Slann(260)
    Eternity Warden(140)
    Astrolith Bearer(160)
    Skink Priest(100) w/ priestly trappings
    star priest(100)
    starseer(160)

    Core-
    5 Gurad x 2(200)
    10 Guard x 1(200)

Bastilidon with Solar Engine x 2(600)

Eternal star host(80)- +1 save for guard and d3 wounds instead of 1, awesome.

This army seems to synergize really well though I'm concerned I don't have enough models on the table to be able to last.

My plan was to keep a fairly tight cohesive unit to maximize the buffs from the characters and use the skinks and bastilidons to screen the core of guard from ranged attack.

What do y'all think? Any comments, tips, suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Edit- added point values. Thought I read somewhere we weren't supposed to do that though everyone appears to be

I'm also tempted to drop the 10 guard to 5 and pick up a skink priest with trappings means rerolls for most/all of my army. What do y'all think?

The army is probably going to suffer most on objectice-based games. Croak is very powerful but ypu can kill characters just as easily with a scar vet on carnosaur and a slaanesh. This givest you more flexibility. Keep all the guard you can because being around characters gives the guard +1 save and +2 bravery.

If you want, you can drop one bastilafo. With the 320 points (you saved some on kroak) get ten more guard and the formation with an eternity warden and 3 units of ten guard. The battalion gives them a 2+ save when near him and the usual plus one attack. That is 90 atacks from the guards per turn! Plus the jaws and Shields attacks. This will melt most armies whilSt taking very little back because the Shields ignore rend up to -1

@Bowser Oh you, you'll make me blush at this rate.

I really should get to rounding up all those lists I've made across the site and pop them into that emporium, it looks a bit outdated atm.

In regards to this post, you have a great start by having 2 Bastiladons. I feel you may need to have a bit of a shakeup around that though. If you want to really be competitive, you should be aware that other comp players will be packing Mortal wounds like sandwiches at a picnic- this means that our Saurus Guard can tend to be a massive point sink that die before they achieve anything. Now, by all means still build around them, but just be aware that you'll need some savvy manouvering if you against something like Beastclaw Raiders.

Now on to Kroak, I'm sad to say that he really is just overpriced. He is almost completely outclassed by the Celestial Hurricanum, which is also 200 points cheaper, and can buff our entire army in addition to pumpiong out mortal wounds. If you're playing order and you want to win big, you'll likely be using one of these.

I'm still unsure on Astrolith bearers. They are expensive, and they must be absolutely Min/maxxed for them to be worth it. Only having a single caster isn't really ideal, but at least you get value from the Bastiladon shots. Now, if you had a Hurricanum instead of Kroak, those Basti's would be hitting on 3's and re-rolling, which is...nice.

All in all, I feel like it is a solid list, but certainly not optimised. I feel like you could safely drop Kroak for a Hurricanum and something like a Sunblood (plays well with your Guard), and maybe drop your skinks and use your remaining points on a couple of Salamanders or a Starpriest- at least then you'll really start getting some value from your Astrolith.

Yeah I figured objectives would give me a problem.

So the Celestial Hurricanum looks impressive but I think I want to run a pure lizardmen/seraphon list so... my thought is to swap kroak for a slann, drop the skinks and pick up a skink priest with trappings, a star priest and a starseer.

So I think I'm correct on these so theoretically any guard within 8" of the priest can have a 2+ save and rerolls(1/3 of the time), a 2+ save on all guard because they should be within 8" of a hero all the time, and the ability to force project 5 spells pretty much anywhere on the field.

What do y'all think about that?

Sounds like a much more competitive list. Who is your general?

Not sure, was thinking the slann unless you have a compelling argument for another character.
Also anybody happen to play in the Houston area? would love to get a couple games under my belt.

Slann is as good as any in this list, give him the phoenix stone and and master of defense, give the eternity warden the quicksilver potion and you should be good to go.
