Imagine that warhammer (both universes) was a gargantuan universe, with the popularity of Warcraft or Star wars. With big hollywood movies and triple A videogames. Do you think any of those things could do the warhammer universe justice?

But the big questions are, what would GW look like? Would their prices drop? Would age of Sigmar be a thing? Would warhammer become more child friendly, it's a pretty gruesome universe afterall.

And how would Warhammer influence other Sci-fi/fantasy genres? would other universes follow warhammer's grimdark attitude and be targeted at more mature audiences? Or would warhammer become, as i said before, more child friendly and lose it's grimdark attitude?

What are your thoughts, what would be good and what would be bad about warhammer beckoning a really huge thing?

If they could do cartoon movies like Marvel and DC, I would love a 40K or AoS blockbuster, but I think it is too much. You would have more angry fans because this or that was missed. But a series of cartoon movies you can get the action and looks right, and keep it expanding.

Warhammer actually has a lot of really fun video games. Mordheim and Space Marine fps awesomeness, Warhammer 40k Dawn of War strategy play, Total War: Warhammer, Blood Bowl, etc. There's a twin stick shooter one too but I don't recall the name. Oh right, and Age of Reckoning.

There's also the Space Marine movie. A WHFB movie would be great though. Of course Lizards would have a very small part, if any.

I could never imagine them doing a mainstream AoS movie... that fluff is pretty weak (even amongst many AoS fans). AoS popularity would have to absolutely sky rocket for that to become even a remote possibility.

I was pretty excited about that back in the day, but it was (in my opinion) a huge disappointment. The animation was weak and the story was way to simplistic.

Agreed. There are definitely a few gems!

I immediately thought of the video games Shadow Of The Horned Rat and Dark Omen. Those were fun, but frustrating.

    My opinion :bag::

    1) Unless they made them rated R (for all the violence, dark themes, and blood for the blood god) I doubt the movie creators could do the warhammer 40K universe justice.

    2) Beyond that, warhammer lore and history is great, but is that enough to make a good movie? The movies would need a good plot with compelling characters, and without the "mainstream" exposure to the universe most of the movie is going to be bogged down in backstory... it would be very hard to get right and even harder to sell to a broad audience.

Take the recent Dark Tower movie: great book with deep history universe. The movie didn't do great, because the movie creators were stuck between two poles: stay true to the lore and story of the book (diehard fans would love it, but the majority of movie going america would leave the theater scratching their heads, or just not go) or pander to the lowest common denominator to make the movie accessible to everyone (movie is watched by many more people, making more :greedy::greedy::greedy:, but the diehard fans will be upset because the movie is only surface level and leaves so much out).

You missed out Warhammer Quest and the other iOS games.

Indeed, Ultramarines was released quite a while ago, although I'm still waiting for a film that wasn't Space Marines vs Chaos Space Marines... How about one about Orks? Or Necrons?

Warcraft and Starcraft are more popular than Warhammer somehow, but they've only had one film released too - Warcraft: the beginning. I've never seen it but apparently it wasn't that well received by anyone apart from the Chinese.

I agree with @NIGHTBRINGER that an AoS film is completely out of the picture unless it was something like Kharadron Overlords or something, because the Dwarf factions have the most fluff in AoS. Furthermore, less people have probably heard of AoS than Warhammer Fantasy. Certainly a Warhammer Fantasy film would be more likely and probably better received.

Not just that, but also their history and fluff is rather bland I feel, compared with the Dwarf factions.

Why make a film about fantasy Space Marines when you can just make a film about Space Marines? At least Space Marines have a rich and well detailed history.

Well, the premise is that warhammer is a gargantuan universe, with the popularity of Warcraft or Star wars, so the audience would be large enough.

And there would be a lot of material to make entertaining movie/s (speaking just fo 40 k: Ciaphas Cain, the Battle for Macragge, the siege of Helsreach... and the same can be said for WHFB)

I don't think Warhammer is as popular as Warcraft, and Warcraft is no where near as popular as Star Wars.

Pretty much agree. I kinda like Warhammer but the lore is even more silly than Warcraft and both are orders of magnitude less popular than Star Wars.

Guys, do you read the same OP as I?

@Captaniser opened the thread with this premise:
"Imagine that warhammer (both universes) was a gargantuan universe, with the popularity of Warcraft or Star wars"

I know Warhammer is not as popular as Warcraft / SW, but this is the starting assumption for this sort of "alternate reality"

Basically that. I started this thread hoping to hear what GW and Warhammer would look like, IF it was a titanic and well known universe, rivaling Star Wars and Warcraft. Not if the lore is silly or whether we should make movies about Sigmarines.

    I was thinking discussions like:

    Would GW lower their prices?
Would Warhammer become more childrens friendly?
Would Warhammer toys, not miniatures, exist?
    Could there be major movies?
Would the End Times ever had happend?

    And so on...
