Oh and I forgot the showdown pictures!

Ferocious Warriors of the Jade Host

versus the chivalrous Lustrian Bretonnians of the Kingdom of Jeruga:

I really like the amount of color that I was able to put into all these minis.

Your armies are amazing! So cool, and the stories with them make them so much better! If you want me to build you an AOS list to combine the two let me know!

Your Bretonnians are really cool too, makes me wish they'd make a come back... Though with steampunk dwarves incoming, maybe we'll see some kind of steampunky humans making a comeback with a more mechanised feel.

Thanks again. My Bretonnians were a great deal of fun to paint. Very different than the Lizardmen, all that heraldry took me on a completely different approach.

Last round of pictures before I start doing actual work: got some army unit shots!

    Saurus Infantry

    warden201703_saurus 01 red.jpg

I have movement trays for three of these units, I plan to make two more (one for the yellow saurus and another for the temple guard). Both are only partially based, lots of room for improvement. :artist:

    Stegadon

Painted and to be based after the saurus. You can see the movement tray and unit filler for the black saurus in the background.

    Jungle Swarms

    warden201703_jungle swarms.jpg

All six are scratch built, with the extra snake swarms from the cavalry kits. I am going to rebase these guys first.

Is that a battering ram in that second to last pic?
If yes: Do you have rules for it?

Exactly what I use for them, out of the back of the old army book.

Worked exactly like the log ram, just a bit sturdier and slower, plus I think it hit the walls/gates a little harder too.

Edit: not being lazy and actually checking the rules, rough summary of how it works:

    warden201703_battering ram.jpg

Minimum 6 infantry models to push the battering ram, each model pushing the ram adds 1 strength to the attack for a maximum of 8 strength, D6 wounds per attack. Makes one attack versus a wall/gate per turn, units in melee cannot use the ram attack.

-1 Movement penalty for the weight of the ram, but when being shot at roll D6 (1-2 hits the ram, with 7 toughness and 5 wounds makes it hard to kill).

Units can abandon/panic away from the ram and other units can pick it up at any time its free.

Since (theoretically) this battering ram is modelled to look like stone I could make a house rule to reflect this, either bumping up its toughness or wound count by one.

Ah OK, I think I might do some own rules for such rams in AoS because I'd love to play a siege battle sometime.

Early progress on rebasing my Jungle Swarms:

    Bases repainted:

    warden201704_jungle swarms bases 4.jpg

Plan is to have them look nice and muddy. They aren't drying quite as "wet" as I wanted them too, so I am going to add a little bit of color to the base as well. I was also experimenting with using a substitute for the old chestnut ink that used to be sold by GW; the paint I used is in the picture next to it (transparent burnt sienna). I mixed it with black paint and added a bit of water.

Plus plenty of jungle plants when they are dry. And give some of the snakes a fresh coat of paint.

Edit: one thing to note is the only actual plastic bits of these models are the serpent-bit from the saurus cold-one cavalry set. The other snakes are baked-clay, and I cast the bases from resin.

    They are complete!

    Jungle Swarms
I decided to add a bit of color to the bases (a little bit of green), you can't really see it on the final models though. Partially inspired by @n810 and his jungle swarms.

I enjoyed adding the foliage to the bases, always fun to do, and these are big enough to almost be mini terrain pieces.

Also finally based my saurus scar-veteran, same time I did my jungle swarms as you can tell by the WIP pictures.

    Yax Nuunayiin :
    warden201704_Yax Nuunayiin 2 side.jpg

I have had this model since I started this hobby, glad he finally is complete!
    warden201704_Yax Nuunayiin 1 based.jpg

    warden201704_Yax Nuunayiin 3 back.jpg

Since he kept tipping over, I added a nickel to his base. It mostly works, unless there is a hill or a slope on the terrain board.

Thise jungle swarms look amazing! And now that the scar-vet Yax Nuunayiin is based and fully complete, it just looks so incredible! A little base detail and it just brings the model to life! Really nice to see your army getting some updates! Going to be as epic as their back stories!

Next project: Saurus Regiment Movement Trays. I started this one the same time I worked on the jungle swarms; I already had three trays but I needed two more (one for the yellow saurus regiment and another for the temple guard and the Slann).

    warden201704_saurus movement trays 1.jpg

Trays are made out of foam board, measured out to fit 4x5 for a 20 unit saurus block, and a 5x6 for a 30 unit temple guard block (26 temple guard and the Slann)

    warden201704_saurus movement trays 2.jpg

Each movement tray has a generic Lizardmen Old One symbol in the center. For the temple guard/slann block, I used the Slann Death Mask symbol provided by @Qupakoco and used by @discomute as his blood bowl team.

Saurus Regiment Movement trays are built, and partially based. The big one on the right is the one for the temple guard and the slann:

    warden201704_saurus movement trays 5.jpg

The two new ones are a slightly different color, but in an actual game that won't matter because the saurus will cover it up (until they start to be mowed down).

Also added sand to the edge of the trays, ready to be painted brown and to have leaves added. I will base each one of these as I go through the individual saurus units.

    warden201704_saurus movement trays 6.jpg

And a final pic showing the Slann and his bodyguard, testing out there new movement base.

    warden201704_saurus movement trays 4.jpg

It meets with his eminence's approval.

Red Saurus WIP; added the paint coatings to the sand on their bases, next to add the jungle paints.
A "prior to" shot. I added the sand to their bases but never got around to painting them.

Also shows how they fit in the movement tray.
