Heya, folks! Wanted to start up this log. I already shared some images in my intro thread of my Saurus Oldblood model, but figured I'll repost here for history's sake (plus now it is based nicely): Also have some photos of Terradons (pre-Skink riders) I'll be adding in a separate comment below.
Yeah, thinking of going that way _roughly_. I don't want it looking as standardized as a regiment of Empire spearmen or anything, but leaning toward primarily red crests, yellow/blue feathers. Skinks are going to be standard blue bodies though, and Saurus similar blue/green body, but with red backs like the old-blood.
Nice colour grading on the terradons' wings. Very smooth transitions. I'm looking forward to seeing more!
Thanks, everyone! Here are some pictures of them with skinks on them. My camera/lighting/background stink, but I think I picked the better pictures I got lol. If anyone has any constructive criticism too, it's definitely welcome!
Very nice work with the complementary colors. Also your bases look pretty much like I want to do mine.
Your fireleeches look super good and I really like the paler pallette you used for your skinks. Also for lighting and background you can build a super cheap diy Lightbox. All it requires is a cardboard box, a plastic grocery bag(with no printing on it), tape, a piece of white paper or cardstock, and x2 bright sources of light. Cut some wide holes in the sides of the box and tape the bags tightly over the holes. Then tape your paper about halfway up the bottom of the inside of your box and while making sure not to crease it, tape the other end to one of the solid sides. Then position your light sources where you want them and position your mini. You now have a janky ass lightbox that works okay but is alright for just using stuff around the house. If you have white tissue paper you can substitute that for the plastic bags for a better filter Takes alright pictures, this one was taken one handed with a cellphone while holding my main light with my other hand of my WIP bloodcrusher so it's not really the best example, but if you spend the time getting your lights just right and fiddle with positioning you can get some fantastic photos
Just leave this here you might find it useful. http://taleofpainters.blogspot.co.uk/2015/02/tutorial-how-to-photograph-miniatures.html http://taleofpainters.blogspot.co.uk/2016/01/tutorial-beginners-guide-to-miniature.html
Nice terradons! I´d suggest adding a light black drybrush (light refers to drybrush, not to the black ) to the fire to represent smoke Something like guilliman´s sword, the fire on his base´s also a nice example
Thanks @DeadlyRecluse and @Crowsfoot for those photographing tips! @Jorgik that's a great idea—definitely will hit that up. Thanks!
Thanks! I'm happy with how they came out—I used the citadel texture paint Armageddon Dust with a Agrax Earthshade wash and Terminatus Stone drybrush. And the Mordheim Turf grass tufts. Super easy, for sure! EDIT: And a base of Zandri Dust (which you can see on the edges)
