Good day, ladies and gentlemen! ) [IMG] upload_2017-7-9_20-19-54.gif

In this thread I shall be posting pictures of my Kings of War army: Salamanders. Yes, it looks pretty much like lizards from the other game (it's previous incarnation, at least) but they actually live in Mantica and fluff-wise are much more civilized than lizzies were ever portrayed in Old World upload_2017-7-9_20-19-54.gif upload_2017-7-9_20-19-54.gif upload_2017-7-9_20-19-54.gif upload_2017-7-9_20-19-54.gif upload_2017-7-9_20-19-54.gif upload_2017-7-9_20-19-54.gif upload_2017-7-9_20-19-54.gif upload_2017-7-9_20-19-54.gif upload_2017-7-9_20-19-54.gif upload_2017-7-9_20-19-54.gif . Later I shall be showing some of their buildings and every day life elements, like trading posts, houses, shops, etc. I hope you'll like them! [IMG] upload_2017-7-9_20-19-54.gif

    Ghekkotah Warriors.
Since Dagger Island is basically a mix of jungle and swamps the local ghekkos have that natural lovely swamp camouflage.

    Ceremonial Guards.
Those select few salamanders who have dedicated their life to military career usually fill up the ranks of Ceremonial guards. They are highly respected members of the Dagger Island society and many young salamander boys and girls dream of one day becoming members of this elite group.

    Ancients.
Ancients are those among the ranks of Ceremonial guards that have lived through many battles and refuse to return to peaceful occupations (like most salamander primes do) However they are not bloodthirsty addicts to warfare. They are mentors and wise advisers to younger salamanders. Many of them are rather old, so their internal flame is not as hot as it used to be. Hence greyish colour of their scales. However in Dagger Island society that is a sign of wisdom and respectful age.

Thank you very much! :) Well, I use mostly Army painter range. In their classification of colours that is Army green. I mix it with a tad of black and water down just a bit.

Why, thank you! You are too kind. )

More pictures and fluff will follow soon. )

    Thank you very much! )

Thank you. More will follow. )

Thank you. ) I like the miniature a lot. Maybe it is the hand or the feathers, but the miniature looks very imposing and menacing. Who could have thought skinks could look menacing? )

    Thank you. )

    Thanks a lot! )

    Nicely done all around, :D
    I'm curious about your bases,
they seem to be one piece for the whole unit,
did you magnetize all the models with a steel base or something like that ?

Thank you very much. ) I am pleased that you liked my work.

As for the bases, @Crowsfoot has it absolutely correct. This army was designed and is being built for Kings of war. Salamanders are a new army for me and I started it way after GW did what they did to the Old World and the game in general.

I do realize that members of most forums are tired of these holy wars between those who hate and those who love AoS. I am generally in the haters group in this case, though it is not my custom to be one-sided. As a university teacher and PhD I am supposed to be neutral towards most things untill I find a proper scientific explanation to a particular phenomenon. I am struggling quite a bit finding explanation to GW behavior, to be honest. I do realize the decision was profits-driven, but destroying an entire 30 years fluff and losing quite a bit of a fan base for that? There could've always been a new age in the Old World (say 500 years after victory over chaos) with sigmarines, steampunk dwarfs, etc. if that was absolute necessary to add to the aesthetics of their new vision. When was the last time when fantasy universe complete rebooting was a good idea? The only example that comes to my mind right now is HoMM I-III vs newer installments. Sorry I must have lost it a bit. )

To put it short I just don't feel right playing unsupported game or with purely fan rules like the 9-th age. But that is just me and by no means can be taken in any other manner than my personal preferences. KOW has a much lighter fluff tone, a world that is rebuilding after ice age and is generally closer to high fantasy that I like much more that grimdark one.

Exactly. ) I noticed you are quite active in KOW section of the forum. Do you play KOW a lot?

.... so not steel bases then, cardstock or plastcard then ?
Mostly I was wondering what you used for such thin bases.

    Ps. I'm still in 8th edition. :p

Oh, I am terribly sorry, I got carried away. I use thin plastcard. I am not entirely sure what type of plastic it is made of, but it is extremely durable for being about a millimeter thin. It is hard to cut but does not deform even when you have several big metal models glued on it. )
