Hey just wondering if any of you guys have some tips on how to paint stone weapons and have them actually look like stone and not just grey

Pick up some pebbles somewhere. Study them closely. First thing to learn: stone is rarely completely grey.

But pick a pebble. Sit it on your paint bench. Try to copy what you see onto something else. Try to paint the color pattern in the pebble. (See next)

I asked @Itepixcauh how he did these weapons, explanation below.

    Really simple,

    - Basecoat of dawnstone
    - Wash with Agrax Earthshade
    - Drybrush with Administratum Grey
    - Edge Highlight with Administratum Grey
    - Edge Highlight wth Ulthuan Grey
    - Glaze the shadows and recesses with diluted Biel-tan Green
    - If the shadows are a bit shallow, add a fine line of Agrax again

    Welcome!

My recipe for stone in general (which I also use for stone weapons) is much more simple, and I'll post it here although frankly it doesn't look half as great as the one above which looks awesome.

    - dark primer recommended
    - basecoat medium grey or dark grey, I use Army Painter's "Uniform Grey" but GW's "Celestra Grey" will do.
    - shade dark, with GW's "Nuln Oil" for example.
    - drybrush it with a light grey, I use Army Painter "Ash Grey"
    - optional: drybrush again, very lightly (be careful), with an even lighter grey or white
    - optional: If you want a moss or dirt effect, shade again with a green shade or a sepia/brown one.

Example (the weapon was shaded only once I think, but the stone he is standing on was shaded with brown again):
    Eternity Warden with stone weapon

Yea that seems like a good idea too, i was thinking maybe painting it dawnstone and stippling admin grey over it to give like a rougher rinish. With the black and green wash just in the edges

    Sounds like it could work!
The good thing about stones is: There are lots and lots of colors. Some are grey, some are red, all tones of brown, green, black, or white. Some even glitter metallic.
Grab a few spare bits and try out a few things.
