I played a game of AoS when it first came out and we used wounds as a sort of point system. I thought it was pretty terrible compared to 8th and haven't given it a second thought till now ( it is becoming more popula). I also heard that GW made a few improvements to the "rules" and have found the errata and faq but I am still looking for the point system that I heard GW made.

The point system was released along with the General's Handbook. If you go to scrollbuilder.com you can look up all of the point values for our army as well as all of the others and build an army that is legal (minimum battleline, maximum hero/behemoth/artillery etc)

Just wait a few more weeks for the release of GH2 it will hopefully answer a lot of your questions and ours.

Wounds was a bad way to try and balance AOS but the GH1 introduced points and match play etc, still not perfect but a massive improvement so hopefully GH2!!!

So I should wait for the second handbook to come out before I buy anything?

Personally, I would. I think that a lot will change and our army will be affected a lot because we were one of the first battletomes - so I think that we will be one of the most changed armies.

I'd wait to see what the changes are made to the warscrolls and what kind of playstyle you like before investing a lot.

The points system? that they made you pay for.

It did have the virtue of assigning values to all models, all Armies, in one go.

It looks like the business plan going forward is to update the points annually. By making you pay for a $25 [?] splat book, annually.

It means every year things can get balanced instead of waiting for your codex to arrive..

And you can always choose to use the online tool which is free.

I personally love this way of updating. Yes it does cost something but it isn't manditory and you can share the GHB with your buddies ( I never bought version 1)

2$ each month seems a good deal.

I agree. Probably cheaper that way.
And those books include a lot of cool stuff beyond just the points.

Are the point values for the Bretonnians from GHB1 going to remain in the online tool? If they are excluded from GHB2 can they be fielded in matched play using the points from GHB1? @Warden is not the only one that will want to know.

As far as I know the Warscroll builder will be updated with all the official available points.
The points for the compendium units will be released as a PDF (hopefully on release day).

I also read over at TGA at least one tournament host of a tournament in the near future stated that if there aren't points until then, the existing ones from the GHB1 should be used, compendium armies will stay playable.
