My workflow for the ruins is as follows:
    - take some air drying clay like Fimo air or DAS and roll it ~3-5mm thick.
    - use the rolling pin on it
    - put something on it because when it dries it tends to roll up
    - break it into parts using your fingers or small pliers

Then I do my standard stone painting technique:
    - base coat it middle grey
    - shade it black
    - drybrush it light grey
    - if the stone is meant to be outside, apply some brown or sepia shade.

Actually the parts I used for those bases are leftover pieces from my terrain projects and the Silver Tower bases.

My goal is to put some brown sand next to them as earth and add some moss and grass.
They should fit my army but be a bit more fancy.

    Another base WIP.
I applied some sand, painted it brown and shaded it with earth tone.
Next step is drybrushing it with a grey to make the structures show a bit more again, and then moss and grass for the finish.

Ok now that we have the pictures out of the way, here are some remarks on the Saurus Guard:

I followed my established Saurus style. But this time I highlighted the bronze parts with bright gold. I briefly thought about using silver to highlight but decided against it. It may look good on many units but IMO it doesn't fit my army.

For the banners I chose all three different banner top parts and I used three colors to set them apart.

I notice now that the banners are a bit sloppily painted... I lack the energy to fix it though.

I don't like their eyes that much. They are decent and they fit the rest of my troops but I'd love to have pupils on them.
I tried to paint pupils of that size on some spare heads and failed though. So unfortunately no pupils right now.

Inspired by their warscroll and some artwork in the Battletome I decided to give the weapons some lightning effect. It was done following a tutorial for power swords that I found, and it was way more easily done than I had expected. Just a thin line of light blue and then some white on top of it.

There are tons of additional parts in the box that I didn't know what to use for. Perhaps I'll attach a few to the banners to make them more different. Right now except the top parts they look the same.

Originally I wanted to just put some grass tufts and moss on the bases but I ended up leaving the moss out completely and instead added more grass than planned.

Overall I am pretty happy with them. :)

Oh and btw while those were drying I primed some Skinks as reinforcements for my units.

I love that Army Painter blue primer. Just a bit of shade and the main parts of the skin are already done.

Great work! Really worth waiting for! Clever to give them a standardized high class paint scheme... so you can merge the units to have one big one without explaining the different coloration... though for my taste the leaders could have some unit markings on them (gems on their shields e.g.)...
Did I say great work?... great work!

    Thanks!
I also thought about gems on the shields. Will probably do that, gems matching the colors of the standards...

    And here they are.
The pictures are too close up but IMO they look OK. I even tried to paint some small reflections on them and made them glossy.
