Hey there. I'll keep this short. I got into the hobby from Blood Bowl. I loved the Lizardmen in Blood Bowl. I then got into 40k, but deep down I'm a fantasy lover, not as much a sci-fi lover. I'm ready to start Age of Sigmar.

I know what I want, but I don't know how to get there.

What I want is all the big dinosaurs, or at least 4 of any combination. Troglodon, ScarVet on Carno, OB on Carno, Bastiladon, EotG, or Stegadon, any 3 to 4 is fine but I gotta have them.

I also want an aggressive melee army. I got burned out on how..overwhelmingly shooty 40k was when all I wanted was an up close and personnal brawl. So I guess I'd like lots of Saurus units or maybe Kroxigors, or whatever is killy and close.

Then I've been looking at formations. I was considering a Shadowstrike Starhost for "support" as I've been reading the battalion articles. I've considered using the 1d4chan advice and running a Firelance Host, but I've heard they're terrible.

Basically I want to start at 1,000 points with at least 1 big dinosuar and expand to 2,000 standard play with 3 to 4 big dinosaurs and a hyper aggressive melee list that can get in close and start breaking skulls ASAP.

Also I strongly want a Skink Starpriest because he reminds me of Lil Skittles and I love Lil Skittles. Plus their ability is good.

Any suggestions or ideas or directions on how to make my dinosaur melee killy list dreams come true with Lil Skittles leading the way?

Welcome aboard, first thing is buy what you like as your more inclined to use it and secondly you will want to paint it.

Start with a Start Collecting Seraphon box that will give you one of the big dinos your craving, from there expand the warriors and get a Sunblood.

You can then expand once you know how your army plays, but for now just get Start collecting box and get a feel for the army.

Can't go wrong with a Starpriest, Stegadon, Bsasilidon, Slann, basically you need them ALL. :)

    Welcome aboard lizard lover !

2 ways to go with the likings of yours :

    1) Thunderquake Batallion.
Many big bad monsters running around as a block destroying things. Can be combined with shadowstrike well. Does have a fair amount of shooting though.

    2) Heavenswatch Batallion

Lots of big bad monsters as well. You can go more melee oriented here probably in the monsters. Has the starseer inside that makes it challenging to play but should be really interesting if you manage ( Haven’t tried it yet since our army is by far the most diverse and has SOO MANY combos  I do like it on paper and I am eager to try )

    3) Bloodclaw Batallion.
Brutal close combat strength. Lots of it. Starpriest Ability is gold, I never leave home without him.
Probably will fit 2 big monsters not 4 ( Oldblood on Carno, Scarvet on Carno ). You ll definitely need a blob of 40 warriors in there so if you are bored of it, don’t go for it ! Also gonna use some knights, but in a way that their output is more reliable than in a firelance.

Ah, yeah, I was worried about the Start Collecting! Box as the more I read the more it would appear that the Knights are rather useless. Despite how awesome they look, they're just not that good allegedly.

So I may buy a Standalone box of Warriors and a standalone Carnosaur dude. I love Starpriest, I love Stegadon, I love Bastilidon, and I begrudingly accept Slann but they were a different team in Blood Bowl haha.

Hmmm 1 box of Carno, 1 box of Warriors, Bastiladon, Stegadon, Starpriest and Slann to get started?

NO NO NO, A stand alone Carny is the same price as the Start collecting box so your basically getting free warriors and knights, ebay the knights and buy more warriors if you need too. ;)

Oh, yeah, that makes sense haha.

I have no idea how to use anything effectively, but I like the words "Brutal Close Combat Strength" so that gets the fire in my blood going! I love Carnosaurs! I could run this list and then as I build up to 2,000 points throw in a Stegadon or so?

I've been experimenting, tinkering, with perhaps grabbing the Bloodclaw Host and a Shadowstrike Starhost and perhaps running 3 big dinosaurs?

How does one use Knights effectively? I've heard they're sorta...doodoo.

So here was a list I was looking at creating.

    Leaders

    Skink Starpriest
    Scar-Veteran on Carnosaur
    Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur
    Scar-Veteran on Coldone
    Saurus Sunblood

    Batteline

    40x Saurus Warriors
    10x Saurus Warriors
    10x Saurus Warriors

    Artillery

    x1 Salamander

    Behemoths

    Stegadon
    Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur
    Scar-Veteran on Carnosaur

    Others

    x3 Ripperdactyl

I know the prices on Battlescribe are old, but this was essentially what I was looking at. It comes out to 2000 points overall.

Or replace with x10 Saurus Knights, x5 Saurus Knights instead of the double x10 Saurus Warriors

I'm not sure how to whittle it down to 1k points to start out with however.

A Stegadon could fit indeed !

    Starter List:

    Leaders:

    Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur
    Saurus Scar-Veteran on Carnosaur, Warblade
Skink Starpriest, General: Nimble, Artefact: Incandescent Rectrices

    Battlelines:

x10 Saurus Knights, Wardrums, Stardrake Icon, Alpha, Lances
x20 Saurus Warriors, Wardrums, Stardrake Icon, Alpha, Spears

    1,000 points flat.

    Build up to:

    Leaders:

    Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur
    Saurus Scar-Veteran on Carnosaur, Warblade
Skink Starpriest, General: Nimble, Artefact: Incandescent Rectrices
    Saurus Sunblood
    Saurus Scar-Veteran on Cold One

    Battlelines:

x10 Saurus Knights, Wardrums, Stardrake Icon, Alpha, Lances
x15 Saurus Knights, Wardrums, Stardrake Icon, Alpha, Lances
x40 Saurus Warriors, Wardrums, Stardrake Icon, Alpha, Spears

    OR

x10 Saurus Warriors, Wardrums, Stardrake Icon, Alpha, Spears
x10 Saurus Warriors, Wardrums, Stardrake Icon, Alpha, Spears
x40 Saurus Warriors, Wardrums, Stardrake Icon, Alpha, Spears

    Artillery:

x2 Salamander (can't fit one if I go Ripperdactyl route)

    Behemoth:

    Stegadon, Alpha, Sunfire Throwers

    Warscroll Battalions:

    Bloodclaw Starhost

    Other Units:

x3 Ripperdactyl (Doesn't fit if I got Knights route)

Both variations are quite different but end evenly at 2,000 points. One has Knights, and 2x Salamanders, one has all Warriors, Ripperdactyls and 1 Salamander.

I thought of a possible third list:

    Leaders:

    Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur
    Saurus Scar-Veteran on Carnosaur, Warblade
Skink Starpriest, General: Nimble, Artefact: Incandescent Rectrices
    Saurus Sunblood
    Saurus Scar-Veteran on Cold One

    Battlelines:

x10 Saurus Warriors, Wardrums, Stardrake Icon, Alpha, Spears
x10 Saurus Warriors, Wardrums, Stardrake Icon, Alpha, Spears
x40 Saurus Warriors, Wardrums, Stardrake Icon, Alpha, Spears
x30 Skinks, Alpha, Boltspitters and Star-bucklers

    Behemoth:

    Stegadon, Alpha, Sunfire Throwers

    Warscroll Battalions:

    Bloodclaw Starhost

Update: I bought 2 Start Collecting! boxes, a box of Saurus Guards and a Skink Starpriest.

My full list right now is

    Leaders:

    Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur
    Saurus Scar-Veteran on Carnosaur, Warblade
    Saurus Scar-Veteran on Cold One
    Skink Starpriest

    Battlelines:

15 Saurus Knights, Alpha, Wardrums, Lances
    15 Saurus Guards, Alpha, Wardrums
20 (4) Saurus Warriors, Alpha, Wardrums, Spears

    That's exactly 1500 points.

I could then just buy the Bloodclaw Battalion, a Saurus Sunblood and 20 more Warriors and be at 1980 points.

I could do the same, but drop the Saurus Knights and bring in 30 more Warriors and drop the Starpriest, a flat 2,000 points.

How're those for armies? Hyper melee aggressive and killy?

Don't drop the priest you need some magic support, more warriors won't do you any harm.

I just ended up reading the Bloodclaw Starhost section (there's no link to it on the main Battalion discussion page) and it says it needs support of some nature.

Based on what I've got, right now, I have 1500 points no Battalion, no Sunblood. Unsure what to trim, cut, expand, or reorganize to provide the support needed for 2,000 point game and still run a strong core Battalion. It recommended Starpriests, Starseers, Slann, or possibly even a Shadowstrike host, etc.. and Razordons..

Okay I can do something like this:

    Leaders:

    Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur
    Saurus Scar-Veteran on Carnosaur, Warblade
    Saurus Scar-Veteran on Cold One
    Saurus Sunblood
    Skink Starpriest

    Battlelines:

10 Saurus Knights, Alpha, Wardrums, Lances
    5 Saurus Guards, Alpha, Wardrums
40 Saurus Warriors, Alpha, Wardrums, Spears
    40 Skink
    3 Razordon

    Or

10 Saurus Knights, Alpha, Wardrums, Lances
    10 Saurus Guards, Alpha, Wardrums
40 Saurus Warriors, Alpha, Wardrums, Spears
    20 Skink
    2 Razordon

    Or

10 Saurus Knights, Alpha, Wardrums, Lances
    10 Saurus Guards, Alpha, Wardrums
40 Saurus Warriors, Alpha, Wardrums, Spears
    3 Terradon Riders
    2 Razordon
