    Hello everyone,

I'm trying to get a galaxy paint scheme going for my Seraphon army. I saw an awesome design from an Ebay seller that I fell in love with. Anyone have any ideas on
what Citadel paints I should use and maybe some techniques?

    Thanks!

Hey those are my minis! The Kroak actually came today :)

I cant take credit for the paint though... That fantastic work is done by no other than @Xlanax_lot !! Worked with him for those commission pieces and they are absolutely stellar.

The celestial pattern itself is done with an airbrush!

Oh cool! Those pieces look absolutely amazing. And it's done by airbrush? Dang, I only have paintbrushes right now. I'll have to look around for a similar technique I guess. Thank you so much for the info!

The transitions are airbrush but you can achieve the same effect with a brush, start with the lightest colour and overlay with the darker ones.
The stars are created in a few ways, one is take an old tooth brush and put some slightly thinned white paint on it, remove most of the paint and the run your finger over the bristels while aiming at the model, this will flick white dots everywhere (practice on a piece of dark card first). Second metho is more precise take a small brush and dot the stars on try to be random when doing it.

Hey glad you like it! And thabk you for the nice words.

If you want to replicate the effect with a paintbrush, it can be done. It would just take longer.

I would sugest using glasing and very patienly building up the colors, this will help with the transitions

Hey thanks for the response! I'm glad to know it can be done with a paintbrush, I'm not too sure what glazing means but I'm sure there's a YouTube video on it somewhere. Thanks again for the advice!

yes, there must be an infinite amount of tutorials about glaring in youtube. In this technique you are basically using very diluted "tint" the color that is underneath.

to do this you can use normal paints and dilute them a lot (almost transparent) and build up the color using multiple layers, or you can buy glasses, wich are somewhat like an ink but for a different effect, and also build up the color.

the trick is to try to achieve a blending effect with them, not like you do when base-coating. this will allow you to leave some of the color that is underneath and provide nice transitions like the one in the galaxy or many other effects

As for paints, I only use Scale 75

Get a nice soft medium sized water color brush for blending the nebulas if you plan on using regular paint.

Ps. Xlanax_lot, I think you mean glazes. ;)

Wanted to share one of my attempts at the celestial pattern. Used a brush for this one, and am planning to do the same for some ripperdactyl wings in the near future:

I based it this off this video which really helped.

And this guy also has some great tutorials in his "Hobby Cheating" series. This one in particular is geared towards galaxy patterns with an airbrush:

Oh awesome! Thanks for the recommendations, I'll take a look at them right now. And your piece is awesome! That's awesome that you were able to do that with a brush!
