Got a fairly friendly tournament coming up and looking to take something fluffy yet competitive c&c's welcome: Slann Starseer Skink Priest Skink Starpriest Engine 2 x Basti with lasers 40 skinks with blowpipes 10 skinks 10 skinks 80 points for summoning probably 2 razordons....
Maybe change on this: starseer skink prist skink starpist 3x10skinks basti engine/steg 3/4razodons kroak+vortex
All those casters are nice but you are spending 620 pts on magical support. Were you planning to give great rememberer to the Slann? Because i would probably drop it for a 100% skinks army
Good point, been thinking of this instead to get more out of the buffs from the slann and starseer: Slann Starseer Skink Priest Skink Starpriest 2 x Engine Basti with lasers 40 skinks with blowpipes 40 skinks with blowpipes 10 skinks Increases the likelihood of an extra turn and with the manipulation of the dice hopefully 2d6 mortal wounds a turn on average if no extra turn!
So finally settled on the following list after a few test games which went really well: Slann, Great Rememberer Starseer, Incandescent Retrices Skink Priest, Priestly Trappings, Celestial Rites Skink Starpriest Engine of the Gods, Coronial Shield 20 Skinks with blowpipes and shields 10 Skinks with blowpipes and shields 10 Skinks with blowpipes and shields 2 x Bastiladons with Solar Engines 4 x Razordons Heavenswatch starhost 2000pts Heroes 5/6 Battleline 3/- Behemoths 3/4 Artillery 1/4
Will you be giving us any battle reports with this list? If no, I would like you to imagine you’re telling the following puppy “no”, then reconsider
I have been thinking about the Heavenswatch lately, so I'd like to come back to this thread to do two things: 1. Ask for battle reports and experiences with your list, @LordRibbit 2. Post two lists to discuss them. One is basically yours, just with more Skinks and less Razordons, the other has Rippers: Here's list #1 Allegiance: Seraphon Leaders Slann Starmaster (260) - General - Trait: Great Rememberer Skink Starseer (200) - Artefact: Incandescent Rectrices Skink Starpriest (80) Skink Priest (80) - Priestly Trappings Engine of the Gods (220) - Artefact: Prism of Amyntok Battleline 40 x Skinks (200) - Boltspitters & Star Bucklers 10 x Skinks (60) - Boltspitters & Star Bucklers 10 x Skinks (60) - Boltspitters & Star Bucklers Units 2 x Razordons (80) Behemoths Bastiladon (280) Bastiladon (280) Battalions Heavenswatch Starhost (200) Total: 2000 / 2000 Allies: 0 / 400 Wounds: 112 It is a three drop list, but you can easily make it a two drop list if you summon the Razordons. 112 wounds is not too bad IMO. And here is #2, it is a two drop list and it has six Rippers isntead of the EotG. The idea behind that is that you can place the toad to make your opponent think about that advance, and also they might consider the Rippers such a threat that they attack them instead the heart of your army. So you would play a hammer & anvil tactic there, and always letting your opponent wonder if you are going to teleport two Bastis or so behind them. You might actually choose Snake Bastis and actually do that, but I think it would be more risky. In any case your opponent will have to be careful with their squishy units such as archers since those Rippers could appear behind them at any time. The lack of the EotG means you don't have as high of a mortal wound output though. Allegiance: Seraphon Leaders Slann Starmaster (260) - General - Trait: Great Rememberer Skink Starseer (200) - Artefact: Incandescent Rectrices Skink Starpriest (80) Skink Priest (80) - Priestly Trappings - Artefact: Coronal Shield Battleline 40 x Skinks (200) - Boltspitters & Star Bucklers 10 x Skinks (60) - Boltspitters & Star Bucklers 10 x Skinks (60) - Boltspitters & Star Bucklers Units 6 x Ripperdactyl Riders (280) Behemoths Bastiladon (280) Bastiladon (280) Battalions Heavenswatch Starhost (200) Total: 1980 / 2000 Allies: 0 / 400 Wounds: 114
The thing i feel about the rippers are that they are awesome with the shadowstrike but huge targets and easily killed otherwise
Yeah against a ranged army that list requires to take first turn or the Rippers will die. I also see that as a major disadvantage.
Your first list is identical to the one I was originally going to take but couldn't be bothered painting anymore skinks! It's got a bit of everything which I like though I'd swap the prism on the engine for something else. I've found that I have to use my engine a lot more aggressively in this kind of list to make up for the lack of combat units, coronial shield is funny when it goes off with summon starlight on it. If you buff it right you could wade into combat with a 3+ re-rollable save and -2 to hit it! I would summon the razordons by the way Second list is a bit meh, no offence. If you're taking a starseer and slann the engine is almost an auto take as well. If spending 460 points on those two alone you want to make sure you're getting as much out of them as possible! Having a slann, curse of fates and re-rolls puts you up to 19% chance of an extra turn! Plus the d6 mortal wound output is really nice with curse of fates, you're killing most minor support characters on a 4+ without needing line of sight. So far I've had three games, won 3. The list isn't going to table people without the extra turn or be tabled 9 times out of 10 so you really need to think hard about game management for the full 5 turns. I've found the basti's are very important but the starseer will be the MVP without you realising. With so much relying on 2d6 shots etc. the re-rolls are crucial, don't believe me use this list for a turn without them and you'll find out! It's a fast list which will give you a lot of board control if used right, the retreat from combat really helps this Another great thing with this kind of list is unless you come up against a one drop deep striking KO bullsh*t list you don't care too much about going first or second, skinks can shield or basti's can take the brunt of a first turn charge
I pretty much agree with your assessment. About that Starseer though: If your opponent guesses the Starseer dice and gets four rerolls or so, I imagine that will have a HUGE impact. Has that happened to you and if yes: What do you do?
It can do, happened to me many times! In my experience though people don't really know what to do with them so will try to use most of them straight away, I tend to do my lesser spells and ability rolls first to try and get them to waste them. But that's the risk you take!!!! Not an easy list to use but man it's certainly fun!
Ok, that sounds reasonable. I think I will try the list as soon as I have a Starseer. Maybe I'll just put a Skink priest onto my Slann's base....
Just got back for my tournament and managed to sneak 3rd place 4-1 on majors! Will post up battle reports tomorrow but extremely happy with how this list works, it can be pure filth if it all goes off!
