So not really knowing what Finecast was I ordered a Sun blood from GW in store today but all the reviews of Finecast has made me nervous about the model now, whats your guys experiences and what should i look out for ? am i after screwing myself?
It's resin, as opposed to plastic, and it's a bit more brittle. and prone to warping if it gets too hot. and you have to use superglue with it. GW decided it would recast the old models in cheaper resin, and pass the savings along to themselves.
Do they make new models using Finecast again? I thought they had stopped using it, and it was only some models they still sold with it that are leftover stocks?
I got my rule book and i was i like the Sun blood, it wasn't in the shop they had to order it in for me so who knows
Depends on the resin. First run finecast is/was notorious bad. Some guy went through 8 brand new necron overlords between his original purchase and get customer support and still didn't get one defect free.
That's okay, I'll fight back with pewter. A metal hellcannon makes for a far better bludgeoning tool than anything that finecast can muster!
I have ten pounds of lead alloy I am willing to cast into skeletons. Anywho, yeah failcast is terrible, but it can be worked with if not too bad
I also prefer plastic by a country mile. About finecast (or most resin really): - remove flash - remove more flash (yes you missed some) - remove the flash that you missed (yes, you still missed some) - scrub it with a toothbrush and dish soap in warm (but not hot) water or your paint won't stick - look if the parts fit together. If not: Hot water, bend it, hold it the way it should be and let it cool. - greenstuff any holes - put it together using superglue (cyanoacrylate), plastic glue will not work
Meh, it's workable. Just not as good as their newer plastics. When it came out it filled the quality gap. There are also reasons to use resin over plastic as the molds are interchangeable from metal... Their newer plastic methods need all new molds to be built. Bit annoying to work with, but for the sake of one model you won't end up suicidal.
Talk about yourself. I nearly went suicidal when doing my Kroxigors, and then again when doing my Eternity Warden. They eventually became decent models but..... damn resin.
