I was wondering. If you want to take Slaves of darkness units into an army dedicated to one specific god for the allegiance, do they count as allies? Or are you allowed to just take em? It feels weird to have to forsake the allegiance just to get the most common mortal followers of chaos or to be limited to allies.
As far as I understood - at least for Nurgle, but I think the same is true for Khorne - they would count as normal units and not as allies, because they gain the Nurgle (or Khorne) keyword using their Mark of Chaos ability, and somewhere in the Battletome is written that their allegiance applies to everything that has the right keyword. EDIT: Upon further thinking I am pretty sure the same is true for Tzeentch, but I don't have any of those Battletomes so be sure to let that confirm by someone who actually plays demons.
Any Slaves to Darkness unit can get a Mark of Chaos, which is a Keyword (Khorne, Tzeentch, Nurgle, Slaanesh) and it applies before the game starts, which means they're part of your allegiance. The fact that it is before the game starts is mucho important, if you take a look at the Varanguard, they can only get a Mark from Archaon and that mark is given during the game, which means that if you're playing any allegiance other than Everchosen, your Varanguard has to be in your allies pool, which means they don't benefit from the Allegiance abilities.
cool, wasn't sure how the mark of chaos interacted with allegiance. By the way, does that mean nurgle has pestilence skaven as part of its allegiance? They have the nurgle keyword as well. While on the other hand pestilence only has nurgle as allies as nurgle demons obviously don't have the skaven and pestilence keywords?
Yes, Skaven Pestilence do have the Nurgle Keyword, which means they can be in a Nurgle list without breaking the allegiance abilities. The only downside is that you can't take Plague Monks as Battleline since they're ''Battleline if army has Pestilence Allegiance'' But yes, pestilence offer cool options for Nurgle lists, just think about a plageclaw catapult

Would love to see more like this! But to be honest, I quite like the Whole Slaves to Darkness Thematic of choosing a Mark. It gives you A LOT of variation, because all you have to do is get yourself a good STD force and then, you wanna play a bit of Tzeentch? Just get 1 or 2 casters and done. Khorne you say? Add a couple of strong battleline chaps, and done! Nurgle fancies ya? Mix some strong, defensive leaders and here you go! Slaanesh? add some Hellstriders and you get a hell of a fast army! You can even go the Everchosen route or the Slaves to Darkness vanilla Allegiance! I tell ya it'll be a long time before you get bored with your games
