Hey all. Serious question: When do you have too many miniatures? Half the time I feel like I'm drowning, but that may be because it is unorganized.
I don't mind the finished ones. What I do mind are the ones that aren't done yet. I get nervous when I see models still in their boxes and know it will be at least two months until I even get to start painting them.
Tricky one this and I think we can all safely say that we are all guilty of having too many models. The hardest part is too not buy any more but that never happens but I think now after being back in the hobby for a couple of years my buying surge has stopped, I now buy only if I sell something finished but that has it's downside as you get a fat wallet and spend it all again!!!!!! I have 4000 points of Death to paint and around a 1000 of Seraphon and then I'm done, then I'm concentrating on making terrain. But I reckon it will take me a good 4 months to finish the models, will I buy more in that time, Hell yeah of course I will.........
Well I still have many piles of boxes that still need to be built, what makes it difficult when some these models need to be kept separate when building for easier painting. Sometimes I don't feel like half-building things for much later on. I get my ideas that sit around, I do eventually revisit them though. Or maybe the pile looks big because of the thickness of the boxes. Well I'm getting rid of some anyway, it would end up being replaced with something else though
Hmm. Good question. It depends on a lot of things. How much room do you have? How much are you going to realistically use? Is your wife complaining? I think it varies from person to person.
"Is your wife complaining?" That is awesome! That good sir is the comment of the day. I award you a top hat:
... I think I have around 7,500 ish 8th edition points worth of models ...? (IRC) (But I think I could only make a legal army of around 3,500 or so points)
Never. If at any point you look at a model and think, “I will never want to paint this”. It might be time to sell it, but you do not have too many miniatures, ...you have simply enough to sell. The lot of you should sail on over to Reaper Minis. They have four “Houses”: House Frogwarts House Tabletop House Procrastinus House Figmentious The latter one being for those who collect, avidly. Builders of pewter mountains. You are all perfect candidates. A member of House Figmentious thinks, “you never know what figure you’re gonna need until you need it”. Seriously, does a stamp collector ever think, “Have I got too many stamps?” did anyone ever tell Darwin, “Dude you’ve got too many specimens of creatures...” ?
I think @pendrake works for GW. I did sell off a bunch of 40k for that very reason. Now I am left with only my favourite armies.
When an avid collector of stamps, or model trains, or butterflies, or fine wines!!! or Old Coins ...dies, those present will view their collections and be impressed. Why is this not true of those who collect pewter figures? Or model soldiery of whatever material? Somehow it is not the same... (Whatever you married Lizards do, ...do not compare your soldier collecting habits to the SO’s shoe collecting habits!! )
