The hardest bit is mastering the trigger, pull it too hard and you get runs, too little and you get a grainy finish.

Step three is where the problems start.
Thin is easy by just limiting the paint but even is a problem for me.
Either the coat is too transparent or it becomes too thick.

I also have not found the proper ratio for thinning so the paint doesn't clog the airbrush.

Sounds risky... I guess I'll put off my plans to break out my airbrush :bag:

Just try it on something you don't mind ruining. Sprue parts or so.
Or on bases, a bit uneven doesn't matter there.

Nah it's not really just practice on a bit of paper, start by pulling the trigger to let out air first then slowly pull it back until paint comes through

One of my biggest fears is messing up models. I'd rather have them unpainted and grey than make a huge mistake. I'll practice a bit first, as you suggested.

Just think about it as you getting time to play games while your models are In the dribk

The waste of time doesn't refer to the time taken strip the models, but rather the time spent on painting them in the first place only to strip them later on.

Here is one from my ancient archives. A couple of decades old, before I knew of dry brushing, layering or any other painting technique. This is my first ever conversion. My converted Necron Destroyer...

It's from a dreadnought. And as for why... I guess at the time I thought it would look cool.

That was my thinking. Of course, the work is very rudimentary, but it was my very first conversion. We all got to start somewhere.
