So after finishing my death army and getting bored of painting elves I've moved to lizard men and so far I love painting them but I'm having trouble finding a good way to do a good jungle / lustria base and thought this would be a good place to ask
There are some great kits that can help out with basing for the Seraphon. I unfortunately didn't start on my own bases yet, but I just finished collecting idea's and I think I'm going for a swampy jungle theme. Mainly plants, some treeroots and maybe vines. Some skulls and maybe critters like frogs. And some transparant resin to make shallow water. Here's some links I collected for myself. I'm a huge fan of the greenstuffworld items. They're great! Especially the rolling pins! But keep in mind that you'll need some putty for it, like Green Stuff. Per example the Aztec Rolling Pin: http://www.greenstuffworld.com/en/textured-rolling-pins/497-rolling-pin-aztec.html (Scroll down the page to see some cool examples. Also how the guy used wire to create treetrunks with nice roots.) Then there's also the Games Workshop plant kit: https://www.games-workshop.com/en-NL/Barbed-Bracken-2017 Skulls: (always useful!) http://www.greenstuffworld.com/en/scenery-accessories/350-100x-resin-skulls-sack-skulls.html Aztec Ruins: http://www.greenstuffworld.com/en/scenery-accessories/583-aztec-ruins-resin-set.html (Not my style, but perhaps you like them) Plants (ebay): https://www.ebay.com/itm/50pcs-MODE...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 and https://www.ebay.com/itm/50pcs-Mode...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 (I recently ordered these - didn't receive them yet) Fallen leaves: http://www.greenstuffworld.com/en/95-model-leaves If you ever need good shrubs I'd advice to check the "MiniNatur" brand. They've got an awesome realistic range of high quality shrubs.
... You could decorate the bases with plastic plants, sand, & flock. Or you could add in bits of temple ruins, or just base them in moss in a leaf litter and the occasional branch. depends what sort of look you are going for. ps. maybe provide a real world pic of what you are trying to recreate ?
Oh, btw! I saw someone online today that had a great idea for jungle basing/terrain making. He said you can buy cheap fake fishtank plants in many colour combinations on eBay. I ordered myself for around $15,- which is a LOT since most of those plants are produced in China and cost half a dollar each without any postage costs. Here's what I bought: - https://www.ebay.com/itm/Artificial...var=431751902242&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 - https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Purple...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 - https://www.ebay.com/itm/13CM-Fish-...var=441640681746&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 - https://www.ebay.com/itm/Green-Fake...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 I will probably cut loose some parts each time and use them for basing or scenery in combination with the shrubs I already have.
Thank you for the help I didn't even know them green stuff rolling pins exsist . Will order one along with some of the plants , trying to find something like the old jungle swarm kit to use as basing additions but on that front I've come up short.
Yeah those rolling pins are awesome. And they also work with all kinds of clay or polymer clay, so you won't have to use the expensive green stuff for that.
I also wanted to base my lizards in the jungle so I have ended up with this tester base: it needs a brighter green highlight as it is a bit dark but I am pleased with the general look
That’s annoying, not sure how to get that working. Hopefully a link will work? https://imgur.com/OuGToLT
