It might... but not nearly as much as expected. The important thing to pay attention to is the financial downward trend that the franchise is taking. TLJ had a big drop off when compared to TFA and Solo will likely exhibit a large drop off in comparison to Rogue One. Solo is likely to be the least profitable of the four Disney released Star Wars movies. If the trend continues, they will eventually fall into the red (unless they make some changes).

Agreed, this is a huge (and possibly the greatest) contributing factor.

That's the angle that Disney are trying to push. I'm not too sure. The spacing between the Black Panther and Infinity War was 5 weeks and Infinity War is performing tremendously. Black Panther was still in theaters when Infinity War premiered. Also there have been far more Marvel movies of late than Star Wars movies.

Let's address the elephant in the room (I don't normally like discussing politics, but this conversation is incomplete without it). Many people don't like Disney (& Kathleen Kennedy) injecting their SJW politics into the Star Wars universe. It is becoming increasingly intrusive in the franchise and is beginning to turn people off. George Lucas made many mistakes and is often ridiculed, but those mistakes were never politically driven. Whatever mistakes he made they were at least an attempt at genuinely telling his story. Disney has been changing all that; they are not staying true to the spirit of the Star Wars universe and its characters.

Solo had many things going against it:
    • backlash against TLJ
    • interjection of SJW politics
    • trouble (and subsequent firing) of the original directors
    • the telling of a story that most people didn't want (Harrison Ford's Han Solo is one of the most beloved SW characters, big shoes to fill)
    • Disney personnel clashing with fans (similar to but not to the degree that we saw with the Ghostbusters reboot)
    • stiff competition from Deadpool and Infinity War
    • the trouble with any prequel... you know full well that your main characters (Han, Chewie and Lando) have to survive

Fett is next and I hope that is good as he is my favourite character.

Rumoured to be released next year?

I would imagine that Episode IX will be next. I could be wrong though.

Episode IX is next, I believe it will be showing December 2019, and then it’s Kenobi, which I’m very pleased about as I would much rather see Obi-Wan return than Boba Fett. I just think Fett is so overrated. He is useless in Episodes V and VI and it’s only the Expanded Universe that has made him the ‘best bounty hunter in the galaxy’.

Would you not like to see an actual film that shows why he deserves the moniker then?

I was thinking the same thing as @ravagekitteh stated above. What if they gave him a story that demonstrates his talent? Does the character's depiction in the OT make him unrecoverable for you? Boba Fett has never been one of my favorite characters, I agree with your sentiments regarding him in episode VI. Admittedly I think he was pretty good in episode V, even if his role was pretty minor.

I agree with a lot of the stuff you said, but that one...
There are so many ways to tell a gripping story despite knowing that the heroes will be fine in the end.
The answer to the simple question whether the heroes will make it should never determine that a movie is good or not.

    Case in point:
In every single James Bond movie you know that 007 is going to live. And IMO none of them is bad because of that.

Maybe a film of him would be OK, but I would still prefer an Obi Wan film.

I agree with you that it is possible to make a great film even when knowing that the main character will survive, however, you do lose a bit of tension and intrigue when doing so. This is the reason why Game of Thrones is so successful, you never know what is going to happen. In the case of the Solo film, we know that all three of the main characters will survive, the kessel run will be made in record time and Lando will lose the Falcon to Han in a Sabacc game. That is a lot of plot that is already known ahead of time. I'm not saying that it is impossible to pull it off, only that it makes it more difficult to do so.

    I agree.

This is one of the best movies I've ever watched. Roguishly charming, gritty, fun, aesthetically intriguing, musically well-performed. Set in the more interesting parts of that setting, and with constant guessing at what various characters' game actually is. Will recommend it any day for the rest of my life. Granted, it plays right up my alley as to cinematic tastes. For books I want depth, but looks for more of a well-executed fun chase with a gleam in the eye, set in another world, when it comes to film.

Who would've thought a Solo prequel could be this good? It deserves to do better financially, but watchers are getting saturated by the rapid output of Star Wars movies these days.

I enjoyed it a lot and I think Disney are doing a decent job on the whole, maybe a tad fast on the releases but I would rather have a SW film once a year than one every 2 years.

Same here, and certainly rather a SW film very year, than once every 10 years.

Apparently they will be scaling things back a bit and won't release two SW movies so close to one another.

Solo continues to under perform in the box office. I never thought I would be cheering against Star Wars but I must admit this makes me happy.

it must also be said that Solo is such an iconic character that I'm sure many fans are not going to see the movie just because "anything they could show, won't match my idea. Some things are better left untold".

    Really?
It happens everytime there is something new that goes against the expectation of people in love with the "classic".

    Trailer of the new ghostbusters.
"Women?!? They are doing it wrong, i'm not gonna see this crap"

    Trailer of the new Jumanij
"What is this crap?!? This is wrong, it's not Jumanij, i am not gonna see it "
    .....

    Solo.
"There is only one Solo, and he's Harrison Ford . This movie will suck "

Oh I do understand what happens there. I just don't understand the reason behind it. For me it is very narrow minded.

Except that the new Ghostbusters was awful. Nothing in the style in which they did the new Ghostbusters could replace the classic with Bill Murray and co - it wasn’t just that they replaced most of the male cast with a female cast.

Agreed... it was an abomination. However, I think his point still stands. It is a risky business messing with things that people really like. Solo isn't nearly as bad as the Ghostbusters remake, but it still misses the mark in my opinion.
