Alright 2k point game tomorrow, I know what he has and hes been keen to use it...what do I build? Help friends

I have a lot at my arsenal.

    Consisting of
90 Skinks with shields and bolt spitters
    10 Chameleon Skinks
    2 Skink Priests
    2 Skink Starpriests
    1 Skink Starseer
    1 Slann Starmaster
    2 Bastiladons
    1 Engine of the Gods
    1 Stegadon
    1 Trogglodon
    1 Dread Saurian
    3 Razordons
9 Skink handlers (only ever need 3)
    1 Astrolith Bearer
    6 Ripperdactyls
    1 Very happy frog

    I think thats everything.

Main concern is do I run a thunderstrike starhost or a shadowstrike?

Does Archaon count as a demon? if so run the thunderstrike with two Solardons, if not run shadowstrike and try to assassinate big baddie. and if you have a dread... I would run him... especially since mystic shield update isn't official yet. just my 2 cents.

    Whatdoes he have then?

And yeah, Archaon is a deamon (or well I'd assume it';s his mount that's the actual daemon like how tzaangor on discs ride demonic mounts as well) so the solar engine works.

Without knowing more than Archaon with nurgle stuff I'd field the following:

Get a thunderquake with 2 bastiladons with solar engines
get a shadowstrike with your 10 chameleons and let by a starpriest

It fits easily in a 2k match & the various bonusses to daemon-killing + the assasination potential will be rather usefull

The rest would depend on what he's fielding besides archaon

So to update his strategy is to run big things, like the unclean one, Grot King and theres another hero that gives him bonus 1 to his attacks. Runs Plaguebearers as battleline and thats as far as I know.

He also throws trees down and always places them near objectives, which makes it frustrating to gain points...so strangely enough my strat is to table

Now as for the actual list I'd take the following:

Slann starmaster 260p with vast intellect

1x engine of the gods 220p
2x bastiladon with solar engines 560p
    3x razordons 120p
    3x handlers 40p

    10x chameleon skinks 240p
    1x Astrolith bearer 160p
    4x 10 skinks with boltspitters 240p

    - Thunderquake starhost 170p
    2010p total

use the slann to spam summon starlight and for once its special spell is actually going to be usefull
Use the bastiladon & chameleons to nuke stuff priorities
Use your ranged advantge to avoid the various trees and be able to nuke some of his stuff into oblivion.

    That's about it I guess.

If it's a friendly game it's fine. It's an insignificant advantage.

If they're adamant at staying below 2k swap out 5 chameleons for a skink priest or something along those lines.

    BATTLE REPORT!

I used @Canas 's list and did very well. But to keep it under 2k which they wanted to I dropped a Razordon keeping it at 1970.

Alright so he was Nurgle taking
    Archaon
Unclean one (or the one that gives 3" movement)
    4 units of 10 plaguebearers
And some type of wizard which he didnt use so I cant remember.

I used everything in Canas's list so we shant go over that, ran the Slann with Vast intellect and Retrices and the EoTG had the unbinding artefact (mind my bad jargon as Im a bit tired). So battleplan was knife to the heart, so two points if you fully control both with 5 or more models at the beginning of the third battlephase you win.

His plan (quite clearly saying it aloud) was to rush my point first turn and win before I could do anything. The book was infront of him as I gave him plenty of time to prepare (which he did)....does that make me a bad person for not pointing out he couldnt win objectively until turn 3? Anyway his turn was first.

Somehow was able to place two of his trees, one was before deployment and the other in his hero phase, ending a run within "7 of it enabled him to charge. Which he did with 3 units of plague bearers, Archaon and Unclean. Wizardthing and the last unit stood on his point.

Hero phase he attempted to change his Nurgle phase to increase movement, unbound it, mystic shield, unbound it, but decided to shoot the bastiladon with an arcane bolt, which made its mortal wound save.

Charge runs and charges were....flawless. I had my two bastiladons and EoTG lined up, next to the Razordons and 20 skinks. Behind these were the Chameleons, 10 skinks and my Slann and Astrolith Bearer. 30 skinks were in range to hold the point so I was confident.
Last unit of skinks chose the opposite corner to go for the point.

Archaon and two units of plaguebearers charged the line of big guys. Some bearers stopped next to my Razordons....and Overwatch!?. 5 died, surprising seeing as I couldn't even reroll hits yet.

    Combat!
Archaon was there to instant kill the bastiladons, he didnt but declared the rest of his attacks were going to the next bastil. 1st bastil took 0 damage. Next with all Archaons attacks took 1. Rerolling saves on the battalion was a lifesaver.

My activation! Stegadon stepped on the over unit of bearers, killing 7. The end result was the Razordons killing the over unit in melee and the bastils dealing 3 damage (meh) to Archaon

    My turn.

Slann dealt some mortal wounds to Archaon, and gave the EoTG some dice manipulation. Who also dealt mortal wounds.

Shooting phase...oh boy *plays bag pipe*

So the chameleons played surprise in the previous phase and popped up behind Archaon...and just about everything shot at him, rerolling failed hits due to Astroliths now planted staff.

He didnt fly so good lads, 9 damage by the bastiladons, 6 by the chameleons and the skinks finished him off. Combat the bearers got stepped on. His idea now was to flank me with his last unit and unclean one.

I had to cut him short and point out the ruling of the battleplan to him, and that was it. Shook his hand and that was game. Must have realised he wouldnt survive the next turn. Should I have pointed it out in the beginning? Both of our handbooks were on the page so he had every chance to see it.

Anyway I have learnt that Archaon isnt unstoppable...and lads apparently Bastiladons are overpowered and our dice manipulation is stupid.

But I feel like I had a good game. No need to boast about it. Again thanks for the list...it was a rather uncomfortable game though.

    Why was it uncomfortable?

You could have pointed out that it was turn 3 but the result would be the same, Archaon and all thing Daemon stand little chance against 2 solar engines.

I'm surprised Archeon went down that easily, expected more from him even with 2 solar engines :p

also he's banking too much on Archeon and the Unclean one to do all the work. In a 2K game having only 2 units of any significance seems like a terrible idea. Too easy to get hamstrung if all that needs to happen is stop 2 units, even if one of em is Archeon. What ws that last wizard? Was the wizard supposed to turn the plaguebearers into something other than fodder?

He was expecting me to teleport something (he never said) over and try and take the points, and it was a poxbringer.

No I had a focus and that was Archaon, I've actually found my more successful games have been not teleporting at all. The only thing I ever teleport is the Astrolith Bearer.
