Hi, here is my list with 1740 Points. The plan: Use the Thunderquake Starhost as a mobile turtle and summon as much you can. Yeah! I will test it tomorrow. What do you think? Allegiance: Seraphon Leaders Slann Starmaster (260) - General - Trait: Vast Intellect - Artefact: Incandescent Rectrices Engine of the Gods (220) - Artefact: Incandescent Rectrices Saurus Astrolith Bearer (160) Battleline 10 x Skinks (60) - Boltspitters & Star Bucklers 10 x Skinks (60) - Boltspitters & Star Bucklers 10 x Skinks (60) - Boltspitters & Star Bucklers Units 4 x Razordons (160) 3 x Skink Handlers (40) Behemoths Bastiladon (280) - Sunbeam Bastiladon (280) - Sunbeam Battalions Thunderquake Starhost (120) Endless Spells Balewind Vortex (40) Total: 1740 / 2000 Wounds: 84
I primarily run a similar list, but I take Kroxigor instead. They served me well at Bugeater this year and are a sold choice for dealing with mid tier troops or semi elites which lets my big dinos focus on the big scary stuff. I normal take a Stegadon out side of the formation as a teleporting melee fighter, but thinking of converting him into a second engine to help summon more skinks and warriors.
I'd look at dropping the handlers and taking Cogs if your allowed to go 1760 if not use the 50 points for a CP
I am trying a similar list tonight just with Kroxigor as well. Why are you at 1740? Just so you can have a bunch of CPs? Are you going to be playing 2k?
We play 1750 Points, thats ist. The list works very well, i won. I summoned: First Turn: 3 Ripperdaktyls Second Turn: Save points Third Turn: Troglodon Third Turn: 20 Skinks with EotG Fourth Turn: 10 Saurus Warrior. Then i won. Next Time i would save the points in turn one and summon a Bastildon in Turn two. My opponent (GW-Employee) played stormcasts (with wizards...strange, maybe new models...) and i go every round for maximum Summoning-Points. He was not amused. The Balewind Vortex was realy good, with more points i would add the Chronomentic Cogs and a Strarpriest = more Summoning! BTW: The endless spells are awesome, and the Slann can unbind all over the battlefiled -> VERY strong!!
How did you deal with shooting? I’ve had some issues with Kroak/Slann up on the balewind being shot to hell but stormcast before he can provide any summoning
Shooting was no problem, on Vortex the Slann gets +1 Save, with his Command ability he gets save-rerolls against shooting. 10 skinks stand arround the slann, but we are not sure if "Look out, sir"-Rule would trigger, because he stands up on the Vortex (more then 3´ up), but we diceded that he gets the bonus. (anybody know?) My opponent played some kind of ballista but couldnt kill my slann, maybe i was lucky! But you are right: whith massive shooting the slann could die quick. Maybe starpriest could cast summoning starlight on the slann or somebody cast Prismatic Palisade. (BTW: Sorry for my bad english!)
In the description of Vortex stated that caster and spell treated as a single model, so I'd say yes, it gets Look Out! bonus.
@Nart i thought so as well, but because the rules are wonky, it’s a separate but single model which allows the opponent to sort of exploit loopholes. For example it was ruled that Kroak wouldn’t get cover because his model was wholly above the building even though the entirety of Balewind was hidden. It’ll be interesting to see how this works out
[QUOTE= we are not sure if "Look out, sir"-Rule would trigger, because he stands up on the Vortex (more then 3´ up), but we diceded that he gets the bonus. (anybody know?) With the Slann's command ability any of your units within 10 inches would get the ability to fly meaning theres no reason they couldn't be flying around next to him on the vortex, so he should definitely get Lookout sir in my opinion!
If you give the Slann the Gryph-Feather Charm (Ghur Artefact) he would get, -1 to hit rolls for attacks that target the bearer, cover him with Starlight as well and you have a very durable leader sat on that Vortex
Yeah he definitely gets the Look Out Sir bonus on the Vortex, as the BWV warscroll says that the Vortex and the wizard on top are treated as a single model. With Starlight+Gryph-Feather Charm+Vortex he is pretty sturdy.
