Has anyone played around with skimping on battleline to front load summoning potential? Something like, Slann Starpriest Engine of the Gods 10 Skinks x2 3x Razordons /w handlers Trogladon Clocking in at 1000 points, our current league level. The game plan here is to pin down soft targets with a teleporting Trog, shove Razordons at blobs, use the skinks to run interference on anything looking to jump the Slann and summoning as much as possible. Our next level is 1250 where I would add an Astrolith Bearer and more Battleline, probably Knights. I could fit the Bearer now but that’s seems like a little much. Would appreciate any thoughts!
The strategy should work fine provided you're not facing an enemy with immense damage potential that just wipes out half your army immeadiatly. It'l probably work best in medium sized games where our summoning is still significant but we have enough fodder to begin with. In small games you might lack the required fodder, and our summoning doesn't scale at all so a big enough game would eventually make it pointless. Also you're going to be extremely suspectible to alpha-strikes and the like seeing as this army is essentially "slann + EoTG + fodder bodyguards" if they do manage to get to your slann or engine before you start pumping out units you're screwed. Also, don't you need 3 battleline minimum even at 1000 points? you only have the 2 skinks.
Have played a couple of games with the list. One was against Stormcast. I bubble wrapped my EotG and Slann as he was playing Retributors and sure enough went first, deep strike, deleted the Trogladon. I got lucky and Razordon shooting followed up with a charge were enough to handle them. Game could have ended there! My EotG gave me a turn two skink unit and I was able to teleport around the board handling problems and scoring points. Other game against Fyreslayers. Unfortunately this wasn’t much of a match as he only had a few units and we played Better Part of Valor. I was able to sneak his middle objective turn 2 with my Slann and burn my 3 to accumulate more points than he could catch up with.
