Hey guys I am currently prepping for an small tournament that's running 1k (2+ btl) and 1250 (3+BTL) build requirements. im thinking of going very simple, as we don't know if realms are going to be used yet or not. 1000 PTS Leaders 120 Saurus sun blood (general, Thick hide, weapon that adds a rend) 80 Skink Star priest (rectrices) Battle line: 360 40x Warriors (clubs) 200 20x Warriors (clubs) 100 10x Warriors (clubs) 130 Sunclaw Starhost (extra bite attack, Celestite weapons get rend -1, damage boost to 2 if Chaos) 990 pts 1 extra starting CP and then for the 1250 half of the event I figured id just add either an Old blood on Carno (and make it the general) or a Slann (both are 260 pts for exactly 1250 Thoughts?
I would drop the Warrior counts down a bit for the 1250pt game so that you can bring both the Slann and the Oldblood on Carno. This will let you change your army to the Larger Fangs of Sotek Battalion. You will then be a one drop army that starts with 4 command points on your turn and allows you to bring 3 artifacts. Your list could look something like: Allegiance: Seraphon Leaders: Slann Starmaster (260) -General -Trait: Great Rember -Artifact: Incandescent Rectrices Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur (260) -Artifact: Coronal Sheild Saurus Sunblood (120) -Artifact: Blade of Realities/Better Realm Artifact if allowed Skink Starpriest (80) Battleline: Saurus Warrior x10 (100) -Clubs Saurus Warrior x10 (100) -Clubs Saurus Warrior x10 (100) -Clubs Battalions: Fangs of Sotek (70) Sunclaw Starhost (130) You would have 30 points left over to use on an endless spell of your choice. At 1250 points you would be one of the only 1 drop list and would be able to use your great remember trait to grab an early objective lead with your warriors.
I don't think the Fangs of Sotek is worth it for a game with less than ~1800 points. It sure is nice because it is a one-drop, but those Warriors just don't do a lot if you don't have at least one 40-model unit.
Im sorry I should have mentioned, this tournament is not going to be High competition (well except for the one "that guy" in the store we have) this one is a single afternoon for teaching newer players and to expose some of our store casuals to an tournament environment without crushing their hopes and dreams with Tier 1 lists lol
In 1000 pts list I'd drop 10 saurus from last squad and take a couple of razordons for that points, or 10 skinks+razordon. Skinks will give you some more mobility to grab objectives, while razordons can provide some ranged support. From my experience, 20 saurus doesn't do much more than 10 saurus. While 10 saurus often overkilled, 20 are left in a state where they can do nothing (like 4-5 models). For Sunblood I recommend Mighty War Leader instead of Hide. It will give you a couple of bonus CP per game, so you can not only use Scent of Weakness, but reroll a charge or autopass battleshock on large saurus unit, if they suffer too much. If malign sorcery is used, you can take another starpriest instead of 10 saurus. It will give additional magic support (especially if you play in Aqshi). And for Sunblood I'd take Ghyrrstrike then - his attack will explode on 5's instead of 6's. For 1250 I'd take sunclaw with 2 40 saurus units insead of one and bring some razordons for points left. This is, of course, if you don't want to take Slann or Bastiladon.
Fangs of Sotek would certainly leave no room for misplays. Being able to auto capture two or three objective turn one with double Lords of Space and Time might set you up to win through attrition while summoning your needed reinforcements. Provided you are bringing a Sunblood you might be better off equipping him with Ghyrstrike from the realm of life. You should see more damage with +1 to hit and wound than you would get with one extra rend. Aginor is right about Saurus Warriors under preforming in units of 10 though. You shouldn't expect to come out ahead in any trade that doesn't have you swinging first. Fortunately FoS does make 10 man units more punchy than normal circumstances.
