Hi all, Next week I’m going up against a stormcast army. I’m reasonably new to the hobby and could use a few pointers for putting lists together as I don’t always have the best luck doing it! Here’s a list of all the figures I have; Lord kroak Slann starmaster Saurus old blood on carnasaur Saurus old blood on foot Engine of the gods Bastiladon (I have both options for this but only one Dino) X2 Skink star priest Skink priest Saurus eternity warden X20 Saurus guard X30 Saurus warriors w/spears X20 Saurus warriors w/clubs X8 Saurus knights X24 Skinks X5 chameleon skinks Free guild battle mage (its a d&d wizard but i figured I could use him for that, so longs as I’m not playing in GW!) Balewind vortex Before I started playing, I just got carried away and bought a tonne of models to paint and now I find it overwhelming to put an army together having too much to choose from! Help!
What I would do is hide your slann and use him to summon in units, so big blob of warriors and 5 knights to use as your battleline, basilidon because it's easier to summon in cheap units and just summon in as much as possible as early as possible, place the slann as far away from the enemy as possible and in cover. Summon in and use Lords of Space and Time to move your units around, play the objective. Turn 1 you will have 10 summon points, bring in 10 skinks Turn 2 you will have 10+4 points, bring in 10 warriors or a priest (depending on whats happening) Turn 3 you will have 10+2 points, bring in another 10 warriors or 2*10 skinks (if they have been killed) This is all depending on keeping your slann able to gain points for 3 turns. Allegiance: Seraphon Leaders Slann Starmaster (260) - General - Trait: Great Rememberer - Artefact: Incandescent Rectrices Battleline 40 x Saurus Warriors (360) - Spears 5 x Saurus Knights (90) - Blades Behemoths Bastiladon (280) Total: 990 / 1000 Extra Command Points: 0 Allies: 0 / 200 Wounds: 65
The bigger the better for Saurus Warriors. 40 models is awesome, and 10 is chaff or tax. 20 and 30 is usually bad.
So here’s my list for this weeks game: Slann Starmaster - general Eternity warden 2x 5 Saurus Guard 20 saurus warriors w/ spears 20 skinks w/ blowpipes Plan on using the slann to generate as many summoning points as possible and getting the engine on the field in turn 2. How’s that sound?
If you suffer a single wound with that unit you instantly lose the best bonus they have. 30 or more Saurus in a unit means that they get an additional attack per model, so you have 60 attacks with the spears or clubs when you have 30 models, and that number drops to 29 if you lose one Saurus Warrior. That's why most people run 40, as that allows you to lose 10 models before you lose the bonus. So basically it is 10 or 40 for Saurus Warriors. 10 if you just need them for a bataillon or for the battleline tax or as chaff, and 40 if you want them to really be effective in fighting.
