I tried my hand at converting a skink to a chameleon skink and wanted to share my progress. To do: Basing Redo the eyes Improve the feathers Tips/feedback is appreciated
Very nice, I agree about the eyes a bit too white atm, I love the colours and the headdress is a master stroke
The eye kind of gets lost in the helmet maybe if you can just glaze it a bit towards yellow or green? Chameleon eyes are pretty colourful like the rest of their skin. Other then that it looks like you did a great little conversion there . Going to make a little squad of them?
Yep, going for a squad. Thanks for the tip for the eyes. Was thinking about taking these of and sculpting some new ones but I'm going to try this first. Thanks! Going to try Acrocanth's suggestion and give them some more colour. Pretty happy with the headdress. Now I'm struggling to find some equally cool bits for the rest of the squad.
I love your palate. You captured the feel of a chameleon. You did a particularly good job at blending out the stomach from a more yellow-green to true green. The blend to red was also well done. It can be tricky to blend contrasting colors, but you did a wonderful job of it. Perhaps try adding some additional colors beyond the sky blue for the raised scales along the back. maybe transition the scales from pastel purples through blues and into reds. It could just be the photograph that is casting the hyper-highlight points, but one thing I am learning to get better about myself is implied textures. Chameleons have a fairly rough skin. It might help imply the surface texture a little better if you lightly stipple your highlights instead of doing longer line highlights that make the surface look wet or glossy. It really is a lovely little Chameleon Skink!
Thanks for the feedback, going to experiment with some additional colors and the texturing. Really glad you mentioned the blending. It was the main thing I wanted to improve on during this project.
Update Built the rest of them yesterday, painted them this evening. Pretty much stuck to the colour scheme of the first one. Playing a game tomorrow and didn't want to spend more time experimenting. Had a lot of fun and I think they look passable. Let me know what you think.
The feathers on the Headdress from your first posted conversion came out really nice after touch ups.
