8th Ed. How come ETC lists seem to exclusively field skinks for core?

as per the title really. Just curious.

I’ve been playing 8th edition for just over a year now and while I don’t play ETC rules I imagine the principles cross over to regular 8th edition games?

It's a comp pack (like Swedish comp was). Some of the tournaments back in the day would adopt and utilize these rules alterations in hopes of better game balance.

    I never played any myself.

    Neither have I - that’s why I didn’t know :p

I thought all tournaments just used the regular Fantasy rules, although I’ve only been to some at my local GW so that’s the limit of my experience there

Many tournaments did just use regular Fantasy rules, but many others ran with either ETC rules or Swedish.

I could be wrong, but I think it was the guys behind ETC and Swedish who got together to create The Ninth Age.

I was looking over the army lists for the 2015 8th edition championships and not a single list had any saurus warriors in it. I was wondering if people knew something I didn't.

I know as part of the ETC rules you can spend "5 points" on army composition. You spend 1 of those points for every unit of skink skirmishers after the 3rd that you add to your army. So having 5 units of skirmishers will cost you 2 of your army composition points. Nearly every list was 5x 10 skink skirmishers and then 2x xx cohorts to make up the min core value.

Apparently the ETC deemed skink skirmisher units too competitive to be fielded without restriction but I don't think I would field an all skirmisher core if I had the chance, I always take at least 25 saurus warriors.

That really sucks - I honestly far prefer using my Saurus Warriors to my Skinks. When I think of Lizardmen I think of big fearsome warriors tearing chunks out of the enemy, not scrawny skirmishers firing missiles from the shadows. I honestly only take Skinks as cannon-fodder if I have about 150 points left over or something.

Skink clouds was probably our strongest way to fill core, while the block of infantry for serious melee was usually formed by Temple Guards.

I used to field saurus warriors too, but i can see why they are less employed in tournament enviroment.
