    Hi all.

I'm obsessed with the idea of kitbashing some winged serpent coatls to use as ripperdactyl proxies. I have plans to use the Akhelian eels from the Idoneth Deepkin and the wings from stormcast prosecutors. I will give them skink riders. I may keep the heads from the eels, or I may use heads from dark elf cold ones. Not sure yet.

Anyways, I will be painting the wings to be a bright rainbow color, and I'm debating on how I want to paint the bodies. I like the idea of painting each coatl a different color, so the whole unit will just be crazy colorful. I especially like the idea of painting one of them an iridescent, opal-y white color---some white snakes have an iridescent opal look to them and I think it'd be beautiful if I could pull it off.

I'm thinking of trying to use nail polish to accomplish the opal effect, as some nail polishes have that effect right out of the bottle. Has anyone here ever tried using nail polish to get a cool effect on a model? If so, do you have any tips or opinions on how I could accomplish this?

    Thanks!

Have fun and post your results. Sadly I'm not paid by them nor getting any form of reward, but I love their cheap Green Stuff, Tools and gadgets.
Oh before I forget it: Personally I would not use the Prosecutor wings because they do look artificial and not one bit organic. But if you like them (they look cool!) or don't find alternatives (I guess feathery wings from e. g. 40k birds are too small), go for it!

I guess Aetherwing wings would be too small? What about a Freeguild Griffon? Too expensive?

Yeah, I looked at all the wings I could find and settled on the Prosecutor's wings. They're plenty big, and I think a rainbow effect on them would be incredible. The best wings I've ever seen for a coatl kitbash come from the griffon statue on the Sigmarite Warshrine, but that'd be like 50 bucks per pair of wings, and I'd like to have 6 coatls to run as Ripperdactyls in a Shadowstrike Battalion.

Yeah, I settled on the Prosecutor Wings. I just couldn't find anything else that was the right size and looked cool.

Any opinions on painting with nail polish? I just can't seem to find any acrylic paints that accomplish the exact look I want to do, but I've found plenty of nail polishes that make it work perfectly. Have you ever tried this or heard of anyone who has?

I'm sure the Prosecutor wings will look awesome, but here's one more suggestion; have you considered the Great Eagles from the Middle Earth line? Of course, two eagles are more expensive compared to six Prosecutors.

I think I read someone talking about painting with nail polish, but can't remember where, try google. GS-World has videos of those colors and you can find hands on reviews on youtube. They work pretty good when applied with airbrush and the line is big. Maybe you would only need a couple of those and be better off than with nail polish, I dunno.
