So the guys at Sprues and Brews have recently run a Conrast Challenge to coincide with the release of the new Contrast Paint range from GW. The goal was to paint a 1000 points army in a week!

I decided to pick Seraphon and I'm pleased to say that I managed to paint the whole 1000 points in a week using mainly Contrast paint. It normally takes me serveral months to complete 1000 points so I am really pleased I managed to get this all painted in a week!

Thanks, here's a run down of the colours I used (all over Wraithbone base):-

Skink, Saurus skin : Akhelian Green + Contrast Medium...about 1:2 mix

Skink, Saurus scales : Leviadon Blue + Contrast Medium...about 1:1 mix. This went straight over the previous skin layer

Skink tongue : Volupus Pink + Contrast...about 1:3 mix. I left the teeth wraith bone

Javalins : Abaddon black, the spear tips were Basilicanum Grey + Contrast...about 1:1 mix

Gold : Retributor Gold, Agrax Earthshade wash

    Green shields : Militarum Green + Contrast...about 1:1 mix

Red shields : Flesh Tearers Red

Rippas : I used Jokero Orange as a base for most of the model, and then used Gryph-Hound Orange over the body, head and arms. The claws were Black Templar, the eyes were Aethermatic Blue.

    Stegadon Skin : Militarum Green + Contrast...about 1:1 mix

Stegadon Scales : Terradon Turquise + Contrast...about 1:1 mix. Applied straight over the skin

    Stegadon Howdah : Basilicanum Grey + Contrast...about 1:1 mix

Stegadon fabrics : Zandri Dust, Agrax Earthshade, Screaming Skull

Stegadon Horns : Zandri Dust, Agrax Earthshade, Palyd Witch Flesh, White Scar

    Basilidon Skin : Guilliman Flesh

Basilidon Scales : Dark Angels Green followed by a glaze of Lamenters Yellow

    Basilidon Crystal : Iyandon Yellow + Contrast Medium...about a 1:2 mix

    Wow, amazing result! :artist:

How much time, roughly, did you spent on them? Under a week is to roughly:p
Is this a standard you would normally(outside of a challenge) be satisfied with to put on the table?

    Gr, Imrahil

Thanks :D I spent about 3 hours a day on them over the course of a week. I'm happy with the standard and I think they look good on the tabletop, it's probably a bit below what I normally manage with traditional paints...but then again there is no way I would finish 1000 points in a week (more like 3-6 months) using my normal painting technique haha - I'm not the best painter by any stretch but I get a bit hung up on highlighting to try and get it right. With contrast, the highlighting was easy (look at the scales on the stegadon for a good example - just one coat of contrast :O )

@Jason Wow, not gonna lie it's demoralising to see that those skinks look better than the skinks I agonise over for hours with 10+ normal paints. So you covered them entirely in Akhelian Green + Medium then did only the scales in Leviadon Blue + Medium?

Also is all the red we can see Flesh Tearers Red?

Great work in any case! After all the great stuff I've seen with contrast I might have to give it a go

Amazing. I would say the Bastiladon is the only thing that looks like it needs more than just contrast (the green scales and bronze machinery) - everything else is easily tabletop quality

Awesome!!! I cant believe you did all that in a week...
Jeez, I wouldn't even be done removing removing mould lines in so little time.

Well, with a new Battletome incoming it looks like I'm going to have to start up another "Contrast Challenge" and see if I can get another 1000 points painted in a week! I have a sneaky suspicion that Stegadons may become battle line so I may add a couple more :)

Yes that's right, it was a really simple recipe and I still think they look good on the table top.

I may just join you when the Battletome comes out. Build a list, make sure I have all the models for it unbuilt/primed, and then go to town.

Hopefully Stegadons can become battleline. I'll just buy a bunch of them, lol.

    These Rippers look amazing! :)
Can you give a short summary how you did the wings? I am really frustrated trying to do them. :-/

Hey, very simple really. I based coated them with a few layers of Jokero orange. Then I added the triangle shapes using only Tau Sept Ochre :)

First of all, great job! It looks great!

Second, so most were just normal paints mixed with the contrast medium?

Thanks :) It was all mostly contrast paint mixed with contrast medium (see my first post for a breakdown of all the paints I used :))
