I’m preparing to go to a doubles tournament in a few weeks. However I’ve only actually played 7 games of AoS so far since my return to the hobby and only against Stormcast and Khorne. Is there anywhere that I could find a basic description of how other factions/armies play out and what their nasty units are, what to play around etc? If not could anyone give me a quick rundown? The event itself is 2x 1000 point lists. I’m thinking of bringing either Shadowstrike or the following: Slaan Astrolith Bearer Starpriest 3x 10 skinks 2x 3 razors/sallys Purple Sun The Shadowstrike has been the strongest of the lists I’ve tested in my 7 games however with a 1000 points of SCE to help protect the Slaan it could be worth it? What do you guys suggest?
I recently played a double game with Fyreslayers, where we had great succes with him grabbing/contesting the objectives early on and taking some beatings, while I focused on my summoning and secured the late game. I summoned a Bastiladon in turn 2 and 3, while i kept teleporting the skinks that the EotG summoned for me. So I would recommend one of the following lists: Slann (Great Rememberer for double teleport) Skink Starpriest Astrolith Bearer EotG 2 * 10 Skinks Balewind Vortex Chronomantic Cogs Alternatively to pack some punch: Slann Skink Starpriest 2 * 10 Skinks 6 * Ripperdactyl Riders (maybe only 3 and take an Astrolith Bearer?) Balewind Vortex Shadowstrike Starhost
More information would allow us to better advise you. -do you know the faction your partner will be playing? -do you know what factions are normally played at that store (the local meta) -do you know the battleplans you will be playing, or a reasonable guess as to which ones?
He will be playing Stormcast. I’m not sure what the local meta is as we are having to travel a few hours away so could be anything. The Priority Target thread currently being composed by @LizardWizard will literally be a godsend in familiarising myself with the other factions and what to expect, so thanks a lot for the effort LW! We a practice game at WH World this Monday against DoK and Empire. I’ll put a quick BatRep up in the next few days.
if hes playing stormcast then hes prolly going to have a strong front line. id focus on a summoning list you can hide behind his battlelines of liberators and etc, and reinforce behind him with a shit ton of summoned skinks with blowdarts that you can port for objective control
His SCE list had: 2 x Ballista 2 x 5 Liberators 1 x 5 Evocators 3 x Leaders, Incantor? Guy who could relocate a unit every-turn on a 3+, maybe a Vexillor? One of his heroes had a one use artefact that let him auto relocate. My list was: 3 x Sally 3 x Razors Bastiladon with Engine Steggy with Bow 2 x 5 Knights 3 Handlers Starpriest Hopefully I can find another doubles game where I can test the summoning approach however the above list did offer versatility.
the two armies have a lot of ranged and not a lot of front line units. honestly id drop the handlers and grab the prismatic palisade. you need some way to keep guys off your ranged and still be able to last a turn or two on an objective if the battle plan calls for it.
The Handlers do at least increase the rang on Salamanders. However, I think Palisade is a valid consideration.
Yeah I don’t have a Pallisade model to use anyway, but I’m happy with the Handlers even if they are a subpar choice. Question on spell choice. I’ve gone for Meteoric Convocation with my Starpriest as although it’s weaker than Stellar Tempest against anything with more than 8 models, it’s cheaper to cast bearing in mind I have nothing to increase my casting rolls and it can be useful against single targets. So even with a higher casting value and less flexibility is Stellar Tempest that much more powerful? Similarly for flexibility I’ve gone for 1 each of Sallies/Razors. Are Razordons that much better that it’s worth reducing flexibility for power level?
So the Tourney is going well so far. Undefeated at the moment after two close games. The first against Glooomspite and Tzeentch and the second against Gloomspite and Fyreslayers. Bastiladon has yet to even take a wound!! Next game is against double Kharadron Overlords. Any tips are welcome!
Gratz! Don't ever let them get a double turn. Take second turn. Continue taking second turn unless the double turn will win you the game.
Thanks my fellow lizardo’s! We got double turned every single game, 3 of them on turns 1-2! We tied with another team but the tie breaker was total VP throughout the tournament which we had 3 more!
