As I say in the title of this thread, Kroxigor, Are they usefull?

I have the opportunity to buy them cheap, but all I have readen about them is that they have not a place in our army. Is that true?

They have some viability, but they are not overly efficient. They preform best inside of Thunderquake Starhost, but you are generally better off taking the Razordons instead.

    Understood. :-(
Maybe in the next Battletome they will be a better unit. I hope so. :)

    Thx.

Have to agree on that... Compared to similar units with similar costs (i use minotaurs as a reference) they are getting severely outclassed.
The moon hammer can be a negative and i've never seen the "jaws like steel" ability do anything more than nullify the damage

jaws like a steel trap reduse average damage by .18 so ya they need a re-wright badly

Being as bad as they are, if you have to put them in your list because you like the fluff, do they at least get better in larger groups? If used in Thunderquake, at least they regenerate wounds and a larger group seemingly would be better.

Adding more and more of a bad unit doesn't change the fact that it's bad.. all it does is spread wounds on the 4th model. Unless you get a horde bonus but it isn't the case here.

I'm surprised they are so bad, bc I just started an Ogor army and they are very comparable to gluttons. 50pts instead of 40 per model, but one better armor save, better LD, and access to moonhammers. Damage is about the same, but Seraphon have lots of access to rerolls.

Inside a death star with a priest and banner they get reroll hits from banner, reroll 1s to wound from priest (skink), and if the prayer goes off reroll saves and charges.

Since I'm having so much fun with my Ogors I'm thinking of a Kroak list.

    ++ **Pitched Battle** 2,000

Lord Kroak [430pts]: 6. Stellar Tempest

    Saurus Astrolith Bearer [160pts]

    Skink Priest [80pts]: Priestly Trappings

Slann Starmaster [260pts]: 2. Vast Intellect, 4. Meteoric Convocation, General

    + Other +

    Kroxigor [450pts]: 3x 3 Kroxigor

    + Battalion +

    Battalion: Eternal Starhost [530pts]
    . Saurus Eternity Warden
. Saurus Guard: 5 Saurus Guard
. Saurus Guard: 5 Saurus Guard
. Saurus Guard: 5 Saurus Guard

    + Allegiance +

    Allegiance
    . Allegiance: Seraphon

    + Game Options +

Game Type: 2000 Points - Battlehost

    + Malign Sorcery +

    Endless Spell: Aethervoid Pendulum [50pts]

    Endless Spell: Balewind Vortex [40pts]

    ++ Total: [2,000pts] ++

well glutons arnt all that good on there own ether this is a unbuffed 3 man gluttons damage table
    [IMG]
    and this is a kroxigors
    [IMG]

but then we get to buffs krox only have reroll all hits and wounds of 1 so it looks like this
    [IMG]
but glutons get +1 rend and attacks and reroll wounds which looks like this
    [IMG]
so a 5 point diference and then you get impact hits and they are 30 points cheaper 50 if you take 12 glutons are a much better unit

Ok so the reroll wounds is from a specific mawtribe (blood gullet), the +1 attack is from a spell (bloodfeast), but how are you giving them rend? There isn't any ability that provides additional rend unless you are talking about the spell ribcracker, which gives -1 to saves to an enemy unit.

Either way it's a bit apples to oranges bc you are comparing automatic aura abilities on the Kroxigors (with the exception of the skink prayer for reroll saves), with two spells and a tribe locked command ability.

ribcraker the spell and not automatic they are bubles from the astrolith(a very expensive slow unit) manly and a 4+ prayer so just as hard and blood gullet is 43% of mawtribe players as seen here 19:10
the other 43% being BCR players and only 8% being non bloodgulet ogars so 4 to 1
you brought up the comparison first and your ignoring the fact that gluttons are 33% cheaper and have impact hits

Sure, I just think your math is a little bit disingenuous bc you are making a lot of assumptions.

Just getting both spells off is about 50/50 if you have a nearby mawpot, and about 30% without one. This is not even factoring in Denies.

and geting the prayer is 50% i was giving both parties the best damage they could muster and krox come up short. it's even worse if you compare them to a unit that is actually good like kurnoths or a real damage unit like irondrakes or witch elves and they fall off the metric entirely.
and it's a shame i love krox if they where any good (or if the model wasn't resin) i would run at least a dozen of them

If kroxigor had rend and could be battleline that would be awesome. So do kroxigor have any use at all?

not at the moment they just don't have a roll they aren't horde breakers because only 1 moonhammer and the stegadon does it better. skinks are faster and make better mobile infantry same with knights and knights do about as much damage and are cheaper. they have no rend and bad damage so they aren't a nutcracker. they are very fragile for 150 so they aren't an anvil. krox are just badly written they could be great if they had proper attack stats 8" move on heavy infantry is great they just don't have the rend/damage

Been using 9 Kroxigors for 1.5 year now. They work fine for me although I have to say that I unfortunately stopped at 4 Major Victories at both GT Heat 3 and GT Finals :p

I'm really surprised you all think they are that bad. I played a unit of 6 in many tournaments now and i just love them. In 99% of the time they make their points more than worth. I played them with Thunderquake + astrolith + skink starpriest , tbf all units that are autoinclude in a seraphon army. Now you get reroll hits, reroll wounds, -1 to Hit them, reroll safes and Double dmg on jaws and you can even buff them more. Just Charge them up against the next Horde you see and they will delete them. I played against LoN most of the time and this is the perfect unit to deal with Hordes of 40 sceletons, 60 zombies etc. They kill them once, twice, or for a third time. Doesnt matter, two moonhammers get like 20- 30 models in range. In the end you will have like 30+ wounds just from these two. Even units like daughters with a better safe and aftersafe or horde units from cities of sigmar are no problem. Kroxigors are literally our only unit to deal with hordes and can survive a counterattack. Razordons are random, rippers have no safe, not even rend. So your question was if they are useful? YES!
