On my search for the perfect skirmish game (for me), I initially overlooked Warcry. Now that theres a bunch of expansions to flesh it out a bit it's become my favourite. What made me bite was the inclusion of a certain warband in the last wave, you know which ones I'm sure.

My warband was already started, and I've shown it before.

I've been adding to it for future recruitments, but more on that later.
Now armed with a stack of rulebooks and cards, My boys need an enemy (later), and a battlefield. I had started on a new set of terrain last August, and with a huge amount of free time on my hands finished it almost instantly.
    Here's some examples of layouts.

I'll go into detail on how I made some of it in the next post or two. Need some better pics first.

wow! that is just plain awesome!
You've got the Mayan vibe nailed. I love the Seraphon symbols on the platforms(what did you use for that?)
and I am a big fan of the diversity of placement of the set.

Where did you get those buildings and walls from?
I like that you added those tiles.

well done, great painted as well.

I knew I wanted the stormvault kit when I first saw it. When I was holding the platform pieces at Warhammerfest last year, I was picturing what I could do with it. The shape of all the parts was fine, it was just the details that I needed to change. I needed to get all that Sigmar stank off it and make it look more Lizardy.
I made crude moulds for the smaller glyphs, they come from the Stegadon howdah. The rest is good old cereal box card.
    Terrain1.jpg
I like the way the Blood bowl coin fits so perfectly in the centre of the small pyramid. The front is made the same way as terrain seen in the new Seraphon book, since I had the parts handy. There were some padlocks that didn't look like they belonged with the theme so I covered them with some vegetation.
    Terrain2.jpg
The bridge pieces were difficult. I decided against making them from scratch for a good reason that I can't remember. I cut out the inside leaving only the frame, used foamcore to fill it and made the tiles from layered card. I love how they turned out, it took a lot of planning.

Very nice work. Seeing the details makes me loving those pieces of scenery even more.

    +1

Did you build those other buildings yourself or are those available for purchase somewhere?

Personally I don't like painting terrain. I just want it done quick. So Contrast paints helped here. It's mainly Aggaros Dunes, about one and a half pot's worth. Some Snakebite Leather was used here and there at the base of pieces and to emphasize deeper recesses. Also Ork Flesh on the plants.
I still need to take non-blurry pictures of the other buildings, but I'll get to them. Here's the rest of the GW kits.

    HPIM4423.JPG
This one took the longest to paint, it's all those vines. I have room for a second one in the other style for the future.

    HPIM4421.JPG
This is the base of the Magewrath Throne. I just cut off some spikes on the corners and covered some decoration with plants again. The old Citadel wood kit is great for adding vine clusters to terrain. I've used it to base terrain before, as a floor of dead leaves.

This thing is really cool. It's a terrain piece that's also a dice tower and also a turn counter.

    Dice Tower.jpg
Made from a structure of foamcore, textured with general purpose diy filler and pva. the details are mostly parts from my scrap box, card and pvc sheets. The dial is done with magnets.

From what I can see, the most objective markers Warcry needs is six. It varies from each scenario. More Blood Bowl parts used here. I imagine the Slann statues are keys to temples and whatnot.

Last post on scenery, then I'll get to the models.

I made this building years ago along with a bunch of other scenery pieces. When it came to this project, I either broke them down into salvagable parts or modified them before a big repainting session. For this one I added a base, door and window frames and a decorative border around the top out of more layered card.
    Building.jpg
As for the structure itself, yep, more ceral box card. Made into a box then textured plastic sheets superglued on as panels. They're made by Wills Scenics, random stone. These walls were made the same way.
    Walls.jpg
The top parts are epvc from my scrap box.

These are pretty cool, made around those LED tealights you can find everywhere around halloween. The hardest part was making hexagons without a template. They work great as wells or fire pits.

The first expansions I have planned for my warband is some Saurus. It's a bit skink heavy right now. Until last year there was only one modern Saurus model as part of the Carnosaur kit. Blood Bowl provides something better here, though they take a while to convert to my liking.

    Saurus1.jpg

Arming them and posing them is easy enough, the trouble is getting rid of those sporty shorts they all wear and sculpting the whole waist area over again. I think the result is worth the effort and have about four or five on the go at various levels of completion. Here goes another one, it's my personal favourite.

Amazing stuff! Your painting skills are brilliant and the conversions are grand, too! I'm converting those Blood Bowl minis as well, but I just rejected the thought of removing the shorts because of the sculpting needed to do that. But you nailed that, too. Kudos! Would you mind posting an unpainted image of a converted saurus?

That's the worst part for sure, especially with Saurus. I always start there and get it over with as quick as I can.

Chameleon Skinks. Nasty Army Painter varnish gave this one a rough, frosty finish sadly.

    Chameleon Skink 1.jpg

It occurred to me that I could make a quick one by painting it in the same contrast paint as my scenery and get perfect camouflage. So I did that.

Stunning paint jobs! This is what our basic saurus warriors could look like, let's hope we get an updated kit sometime soon-ish!

The terrain and models are absolutely gorgeous, it's amazing to see the detail you put into each model! I will definitely have to do some converting now, and the saurus underbellies!
