    Hello,
I found this site while researching Warhammer Fantasy Lizardmen. My son is 10 and wants to start playing. There are several players of varying ages at his school, although from what I can gather no Lizardmen players. There is also a gaming club not too far from us.
I have bought him the rulebook, a Skink Priest and the battalion box as a Christmas gift. I'm looking for some advice as to whether this is sufficient to get him started. I'm slightly lost. Thanks for any information.

    Hi TommyM,
    That's very kind of you!
That would certainly be enough to get your son started! The miniatures inside the box come unassembled on sprues, so if you don't already have any modeling equipment in the household, might I suggest a modelling clipper and glue so that he can put them together.

I just use superglue from the local supermarket and have an old pair of Citadel (Games Workshop branded) model clippers which do last a while!

    Good luck!

Modeling supplies/paints is a great idea for christmas present for your son, however I would not recommend super glue, because plastic glue is much more forgiving and safer to use :)

Paints are also a good idea, unless he has them already.

Model-wise a saurus battle standard bearer, a dinosaur or old blood on cold one are pieces that would improve your son's army. He currently have enough models to play around 1000 points, so you might want to find out how big matches he will be playing before deciding what to buy.

    Happy holidays=)

I paint and convert but I do so in order to play games. Other players play games in order to justify their hobby craft time. Most players gravitate towards tactical game play or painting and modeling.

If your son is into the tactical fighting aspects, you don't need to put much emphasis on modeling. If he's a painting/modeling enthusiast, you don't need to worry about tactical builds and just focus on getting cool looking models.

What you have is a great start. As other have said, some glue and paint (with a brush or two) would be a good addition. The models you have will be a great way for your son to learn the basic rules in some smaller games. If the game club has players like I know, they will be happy to help you and your son learn about the game by playing smaller games.

And do not forget about your own army! ;) When you can't get to the gaming club, your son will need an opponent to play against.
