Just got it put together and couldn't wait to paint it before posting. Need to clean it up just a little bit more but I'm hoping to have it primed and painted by the end of the day.
I like this model. Nice conversion. I have several questions: I am unfamiliar with the "Saurus Cowboy" idiom/term/nickname (due to not paying much attention to WHFB for awhile) some explanation please? How does Gamezone manage to get away with, and make money at, doing near knock-offs of GW models? Are there cattle in extreme Southern Lustria? What kit do the parts for the rider come from?
The rider is made of Saurus parts from various GW kits, (templeguard, Saurus wariors, coldone cav) Only the metal mount is from games zone. "Cowboy*" refers to running a oldblood or scarvet on a coldone solo. *the first plastic coldones where pretty ugly and often referred to as cows.
Cowboys are either scarvets or oldbloods on a cold one. The term cowboy was usually used for solo characters on cold ones, but are now used for any character on cold one. The previous model cold one was nicked the battle cow, because of its rather undynamic looks, and that is probably where the word cowboy came from. Gamezone doesn't really make knock offs imho. Rider is from the coldone cavalry box, probably with some weapons parts from the regular saurus
That looks great, the bigger mount definitely suits our Saurus. Out of curiosity how well does it rank up with other cavalry?
I haven't tried to rank it up just yet. I plan to do a little more to the base, just glued it for now to prime it. I plan to run it solo so not too worried about the ranking up aspect but I'll let you know when it finishes drying. As others have said it is a Gamezone model. There are 4 or 5 different looks but personally I felt this one looked the most menacing and bad-ass. The rider and the plastic bits on the coldone's head are from coldone cavalry, the right arm is from temple guard modified using a second temple guard weapon to make it a great weapon inspired by Chakax, and the left arm is from saurus warriors; I felt it looked a little to plain so I used some feathers from the terradon bits I had lying around. Overall it worked out really well. The GZ coldones are not as wide as the GW ones so I had to fill in a little green stuff there. Also, the GZ models aren't the greatest by any means, the rider I threw out was severely miscast and in my opinion unusable for its intended purpose. I had to do a lot of filing and green stuff work to fit it together correctly and fill in all the gaps but it came out good in the end. Thanks for all the comments. I hope to have it finished soon.
