I am wanting to do an army theme all based around a lustrian tribe of humans so shamanistic, bows and maneuverability. I was originally thinking wood elves would be good for the army, glade riders as mounted hunters, waywatchers as other hunters and hawk riders as something like terradon riders. Any advice would be helpful
There was once some backstory (fluff) that had Not-Leif Ericsson who landed a bunch of Not-Vikings (Norscans) somewhere on the Isthmus of Not-Panama. Anyway, there was trouble in the colony and a bunch of the gals headed off on their own and became the Not-Amazons (Jungle-Amazons). Two factions to choose from. Anyway, potentially you could have Not-Vikings riding hawks. Chaos marauder sprues could be very helpful building that army. Norsca/Marauder types in the jungle. You could get really wild and create a batch of Not-Chinese (Cathayan) guys doing a jungle army thing. Assuming they crossed the Not-Pacific Ocean and landed on the West coast somewhere. Or, you could try building the full army that Pisarro's Lost Legion was originally part of --- Empirish troops but Conquistador helmets.
I always like people spinning the armies a bit and creating their very own unique theme Like you say, wood elves but amazons; nothing wrong with just going for that. Like actual wood elves rule set, but make terradons and warrior princesses instead of eagles and war dancers. There's a white dwarf with rules for playing the Not-Vikings, but it might be from so long ago that it's not worth it.... still one could check it out if wanted. The amazon figures I remember looking a bit odd, but then again might just be me who aren't cool with anything that doesn't have scales
One of the more fun games of Warhammer I played, was against an arctic regions Lizardmen army. The Stegadon was a huge Polar Bear. The skinks were all goblins or gnoblars massively converted to penguin creatures. The Terradons were woodelf hawks that had become snowy owls. Everything was some kind of ice or snow creature. The temple guard was a wall of ice with a Ice Queen / Enemy of Kislev special character serving as the 4th Level Slann. She had a special set of Kislev Ice spells to use: they were GW written & published in an annual or a White Dwarf.
The game happened at a Tournament. I was 1-win 2-lost 1-draw and my opponent was 1-win 3-losses. We were in contention for nuthin'. So we just kicked back relaxed and had fun. He asked if he could use the Ice Magic spells instead of whatever was standard — I said "sure". I wanted to see his force do its icy thing and play as designed. I had fun. I even won.
No everything was obvious. I was familiar with LM. And he gave me a copy of his list to keep and reference. Everything was the correct general size and based on the standard size bases. Wish I could remember what the Salamanders were.
Didn't have a cell phone camera in those days. If I did snap a picture with some other camera I don't know where it might be. He went on to do a Chaos Fire themed army: here is a link.
... Holy snikes, it was that guy, That fire themed chaos is the Best Converted army... I have ever seen, I bet his Snow Lizards where amazing.
I've seen that army (in pictures), it is phenomenal!!! I would have loved to have seen the ice army as well.
Mahrlect he is good! Back on topic, if you go with a Lustrian human army and find some good Meso-American minis to use. Let me know. I especially would like an Aztec witch to stand in for Kayishen the banshee. I've been hoping to use Aztec/Incan models as a base with my Lustrian undead, but I haven't found any Meso-American minis with a scale similar to WHF. I did find a vaguely Meso-American but mostly African witch doctor from Reaper I'm going to make due with. Reaper is a good place to look for specialty human characters or relatively small monsters but it's hard to make a regiment out of Reaper models.
