Hey all! Been collecting/painting/watching batreps for quite a while, and finally decided to play. Soon i'll be involved at my lgs but wanted to play a few games before going started. My first battle will be against 1500pts of Skaven Cheese. I'm not 100% on what he will be bringing, but i know for sure he will have the HPA, Doomwheel, and other typical skaven trash. Any advice on my list or tactics would be greatly appreciated, although i don't think tailoring lists makes you many friends, i was told to do it so i don't get tabled. Here is my 1500 pt list. SLANN - lore of light, BSB, standard of discipline, becalming, harmonic converg, channeling staff, SCAR-VET COWBOY -GW, armour of destiny, cold one SAURUS X20 Sword n' Board -Musician, standard bearer SKINK SKIRMISHERS X10 -jav n' shield SKINK SKIRMISHERS X10 -Jav n' shield BASTILADON -lazer lizard TEMPLE GUARD X20 -f/c, banner of eternal flame -Slann goes here to blow them up SALAMANDER HUNTING PACK -Extra snack TOTAL - 1498 My plan is to let the lazer lizard shoot the hpa, skinks can be chaff and a general annoyance, maybe pick some wounds off the wheel. The Cowboy can hunt warmachines and be a wrecking ball. The Sally can deal with the big hordes and the saurus/tg can bring the hurt while bubble buffing with light as long as the slann doesn't blow them all up before combat. Any critiques/advice would be great, dont spare my feelings, be blunt so i learn. Thanks all!
Someone?....Anyone... Wow tough crowd. Anyway if anyone reads this, is a slann in such a low points game too much of a points sink? It might rob me of much needed bodies on the table. Maybe Tetto would be better?...
I think the main "issue" here is that the list is pretty good so it's hard to give any improvement suggestions. Slann should work just fine as it brings quite much synergy with TG. But Tetto is also a good option as there are plenty of options in heavens also to deal with skaven. Comet being great spell and those reroll buffs will work wonders also. However you would need to invest in a BSB aswell then. Salamander is perhaps the best thing against skaven and their big hordes. Atleast I usually struggle quite a bit with them when I don't bring any sallies. HPA + DW is very nasty combo in such a low point game. But I feel that your cowboy should be able to handle the wheel and with the help of spells and skinks the HPA could be whittled down as well. Not sure if the Bastiladon is the way to go since you'll be running low on magic dice (especially if you choose to take Tetto) and that one point of initiative doesn't really do much against the rats. Although the laser is flaming so it will definately help out against the HPA. BR Agrem
Thanks for the reply. I'm glad the list sounds solid. Good point on the BSB. I completely forgot about that. I suppose if i used tetto and picked up a BSB i wouldn't really be saving a signifigant amount of points. If i kaibosh'd the bastiladon, what would be a good alternative? I was partly hoping to use the bastiladon's laser beam to maybe draw out some dispel dice, and if he let it go through no harm done.
Too true. It's a rough combo. There will likely be a WLC in there too, yay. Not. @Breis, I agree that your list looks pretty standard. It should do decently against most armies. I think your plan with the Basti is good. Blast at the stupid HPA all day until you can hit it with your flaming TG. Just keep your Saurus away from it unless you buff them. Any of the Light buffs will help significantly against those high Toughness things. Speed of Light should be your go-to for anything fighting it. Timewarp will make them into blenders. Combo of both will be lovely! Don't forget the sig spell! Burnination. Burn away that Regen. I hate the HPA if you can't tell, lol. Against his regular units you shouldn't have any problems. Not at this level anyway. The Salamander and Cowboy will be the MVPs, I forsee. I think that's a great plan. Use that to set up some nice buffs for the Saurus.
Thanks for all the replies. I was just thinking instead of the flaming banner and discipline banner in the TG with the slann, what about the Skavenpelt Banner and Razor Standard? It would be a bit pricier, but That sounds like it could be devastating. With the extra attacks, -3 to AS, and rerolls to hit, it seems like it would make quite the Rat Blender...
You won't need the minus to armour save. The only armour you need to think about in the Skaven army is the doomwheel with it's 4+. The Aboms got regen, other than that the greatest armour is 5+ which you cover mostly with your strength anyway. now Skavenpelt and flaming banner!!!! wow!!!!
