I have read over the rules a few times as well as several of the armies warscrolls.

It really feels like there is something missing from the rules. They are just too simplified, and have parts which can be read both ways. I.e. can I or can I not fire into close combat in shooting phase etc.

The actual warscrolls kind of looks good, at least we cannot complain about ours as some of them seem to have very favorable rules.

Overall my initial though so far is "meh", I will of course try to play a few games. But so far my initial impression it has been simplified so much that it adds confusion.

In addition I honestly do not like the new fluff described on our warscrolls in regards to our weapons etc. It clashes completely with our old fluff. Though this one is a minor issue if the actual game surprises and turns out better than I expect it to.

    I agree with you.

I think the rules got too simple, at least for the more experienced player. There just is not a lot of depth to it anymore, and basically no costumization. :(

And then there is of course the question regarding how to balance the armies.

With that said, I think we got rather lucky with our army, with a widespread bravery of 10, that looks pretty good. For what I have seen, only daemons have bravery of 10, even Tyrion is below us with a bravery of 9.

Age of Sigmar might as well have been...

"Both players, grab your favorite model from you collection"
    "Are you ready?"

"By Sigmar's grace let your models soar. Throw them as far as you can"

"Hurray player B, yours went further, you WIN. Now by some more models"
"Too bad player A, you didn't make it quite far enough. That's okay, you'll do better next time. Now by some more models"

"Who is ready for another game of AoS?!"

I love the old editions! Ranked up armies moving around, with wizards slinging those groovy spells we all know and love.

However. This system looks amazing to do a Mordheim esque campaign setting. Granted the balance issues are still there, but hey, can't win everything right.

I had a couple of games today and as much as they were fun, it didn't feel like warhammer, there was very little customization and tactics could only really be used in one phase

Sigh, I'm going to try and keep my mind open. But from what I saw today, they've taken away a lot of what I loved.

My dwarf friend was a bit excited about the AoS until he realised that i have better beard (one of the rules requiers you to have better beard than opponent).

I like our warscroll, new fluff isn't bad, I kinda like being deamon (since we appear from other dimension to fight chaos). But that has nothing to do with game of WFB!

I'm not a veteran, but I bought THIS miniatures because I wanted complex battles in fantasy world. I don't like 40k, don't have friends to play other system. I could have bought figures from other companies but I decided to buy GW lizards to be a loyal customer, to show that I want to play their game. Now they may have lost me as a customer. If I won't play AoS I'll probably stick with 8th, but then I won't feel like i should buy their minis, which are great, but too great for my wallet.

I am pleased that GW has gone the Pathfinder route and is making all the basic rules available for free.

I am pleased that all the old armies are there and released at once.

I am displeased with the round bases thing.

I am displeased that the new edition does not seem to support VERY large armies. I would have been thrilled if there would be a separate skirmish and big army game, but this makes me unhappy. WHF's forte was big games.

While I believe 8th edition could have/should have been simplified, Age of Sigmar went over the top with simplification.

Oh, it does support big army games  :

"You put this so I put this.
    Ok, then I put this.
    Haha! Then I field this!
    [two hours later]
    Ok, I'm out of models
Then I put my last 132 zombies here and we can start"

    Sorry for this unnecessary comment.

I was looking at the Slann and Temple Guard scrolls. They are not quite his bunker anymore; I guess [?] you could move the separate units together; he could make them fly if they are within 10 inches...

I posted my opinions of AoS in the poll (bless Nightbringer and his love of polls). Personally I look forwards to AoS - I'm already HEAVILY invested in 40k and not having to spend more money on rulebooks is a huge plus for me. It also seems to be a more compact game with minimal time investment in setup/planning - which is fantastic, since most of my gaming group are really disorganised and never ready for games.

All this said, I never really got into 8th edition. I played about 5 or 6 intro games at a GW near my work before it closed and a few games at Gamesday before they stopped running it in Oz (which sucks, that was my go-to event for the year!) so the loss of 8th edition is not a big one for me.
