So I have two beautiful metal Slann models, and was wondering if whether I would need to get a Kroak Model to field him along side, or if I could get away with using one of my Slann "Counts As". Would you guys let someone get away with that?

Honestly as long as you paint/Modify it properly I think you could get away with it. Paint him like a mummy or wrap some green stuff bandages to mummify it, paint the face like a skull or make a death mask for it out of something. As long as you put in the effort most gamers will give you the leeway.

Honestly that's the kind of thing that you would discuss with whoever you were playing against. Everyone has different views on proxy ("counts as") units. For me I would normally let someone use it, especially if they were just giving the rules a go, but would probably be put off if that was their permanent solution to a lord kroak.

Why not try and convert one of the models? There are lots of nice spare parts in the plastic kits that you could use to fashion a new mask for your Kroak.

    Yeah, definitely.
The only important thing is that your opponent must have the tools to distinguish your Slann from Kroak:
I believe the best thing possible would be simply to get one Kroak's mask (from Ebay or whatever) and stick it to the face of one of your Slanns.
It'd also be awesome to see one LIVING Kroak walking across the battlefield! :)

Let's say that i could agree on a living Kroak.
But walking? That's just blasphemy! ;)

    Ahaha, you're right, Killer!
So let's say it would be nice to see him floating here and there with some skin on his well-known bones! :p

A lot of pre-AoS artwork of Kroak had scary looking spirits all around him. My plan was to get the death mask and some Spirit Hosts and magnetise them so whenever I need to use Kroak I just pop on the mask and the scary ghosts. Realistically though I'll probably buy him. I still have my "council of Slann" pipe dream to fulfill...

Yes, I myself am building towards a nice little council of Slann, Am trying to get to the point where the old telepathy rule would actually be useful for me, with 4-5 Slann...

Wow @Fhanados , it would be beautiful to see the conversion you were talking about: it should be posted as soon as possible in L-O gallery!

I'd like to have many Slann too, but I have to get a Terradons' box first... and probably I would never have enough time to play a match big enough to let me field more than one Slann! :(

This idea is amazing! Kroak transformer with real spirits! Really cool! And as I got you right with an old metal slann... Shame on the guy who won't let you field that one!

Whose to say the living Slann you use isn't Kroak in another form?
He's died twice so far, that Slann is basically the Lizardman version of Monty Python's Black knight.

In a normal club game - I (and everyone else at my club) have absolutely no problem with model rep - as long as both players know what the proxy models are supposed to be. you would get a few raised eyebrows if you were trying to use a skink as a carnosaur though! ;)

The main point is that both players have a great game. Tournaments on the other hand, will be a lot stricter but a good conversion on the same size base as the original model will usually be allowed. Just check with the organizers before hand if you are unsure :)
