Hey y'all! With the new edition and the new units for our only allies, the Stormcast Eternals, I thought a bit about how to use their new assets to our advantage. Now, normally I am a bit of a purist and don't want to play allies, and I am not the biggest fan of SCE, but I would consider proxying the models and just try it out "for teh lulz". In the past this has worked for some people, even in tournaments. @Adam Trunzo comes to mind with his Giant Ripper he used with the Celestant-Prime warscroll and made 3rd place at the Adepticon tournament with it. So yeah, this thread has the purpose of both exploring the new list building possibilities and ideas how a fluffy Seraphon proxy could look like. First list soon, stay tuned.
Ok here is the first one: Allegiance: Seraphon Mortal Realm: Hysh Leaders Lord Kroak (450) Slann Starmaster (260) - General - Trait: Vast Intellect - Artefact: Lens of Refraction Skink Starpriest (80) Saurus Astrolith Bearer (160) - Artefact: Incandescent Rectrices Saurus Scar-Veteran on Cold One (100) - Artefact: Crystalline Blade Knight-Incantor (ally, 140) Battleline 5 x Saurus Knights (90) - Blades 5 x Saurus Knights (90) - Blades 5 x Saurus Knights (90) - Blades Battalions Firelance Starhost (150) Dracothion's Tail (80) Endless Spells Balewind Vortex (40) Chronomantic Cogs (60) Umbral Spellportal (60) Everblaze Comet (100) Total: 1950 / 2000 Extra Command Points: 3 Allies: 140 / 400 Wounds: 69 I think it is obvious what it does, it is a 2-drop list that has the cheapest SCE wizard in the list to gain access to their comet. The list is meant to maximize spike damage in round one by using Kroak's comet, the SCE comet, 3x Celestial Deliverance, Arcane Bolt, possibly also Spirit Storm if the Incantor uses the Cogs. You have four command points to use in round one, Kroak's command ability works on the SCE's rolls as well, the Slann should summon 10 Skinks so everyone can use "Look Out Sir". The Slann should use his command ability, Kroak as well. The wizards should stay together so they can all profit from "Look Out Sir" from the summoned Skinks and the Lens of Refraction, and cast their spells through the portal. You should set up outside of 30" if possible so the enemy cannot prevent the spells from happening. The Starpriest casts the Cogs so the Slann or Kroak or the Incantor can use them (depending on your needs), and use the BWV. The Slann summons chaff, the Knights claim objectives if necessary, the other guys bomb. When you summon the Spell Portal, try to make sure that there is not enough space around it for an endless spell to be placed within 6" of the portal. That way an endless spell passing through it would be dispelled instead of hitting you.
That's definitely an interesting list, at first I thought the Knight-Incantor/Everblaze comet was not a worthwhile investment given as how mages are kind of squishy, but then I re-checked the Incantor's statline and realized it's tough as nails so this is actually a very viable strategy, since it won't be easy to shake the one SCE off and if your opponent really focuses on it then all the better for the rest of your army. The only thing I'm not quite sold on is the Crystalline blade on the Scar Vet on CO, wouldn't the Gleaming blade be better helping him stick around a little longer? I mean wounding on 2+ is great, but I think with such a low wound count survivability might be a better investment. Just my 2 cents.
Good idea with the Gleaming Blade. To be honest I almost randomly picked that artefact, since it isn't deciding for the strategy. I think going for survivability is worth it, so yeah, agree. The problem I have with the list is that it is kind of a one trick pony. If it fails to do damage in the first round then you are probably toast. At least it distributes the damage on more than one unit.
