Hello, I got into Warhammer last year with 40k, but I've been wanting to start a Seraphon army since I first found out about them. I painted a Skink Starpriest already just because it's a great model, and now I'm ready to take the plunge into purchasing a whole army. I'm planning on getting a pretty hefty army to start off since I enjoy the hobby and am already pretty sure that I will enjoy painting Seraphon, and because my local warhammer store is having an anniverary event soon :) So, with that being said, I have a couple of questions.

First, I'm planning on buying, 2x Start Collecting Sets, 2x Skinks, 1x Ripperdactyls, 1x Slann, and either 1 more set of Ripperdactyls, an Engine of the Gods, or a Bastilodon. My plan is to run a Dracolith's tail battalion composed of a Firelance and Shadowstrike battalion. Would that be a good starting off point for a Seraphon army, or am I biting off more than I can chew? I want to have a good variety of units for summoning and I will be magnetizing as much as possible.

Second, what are the best weapon options or Skinks? The shield looks like a must take, but I'm unsure if the spear or the blowgun is better, or should I build one box of each? Or should I take the time to magnetize the weapon options?

    Thanks

    Welcome to the forums!

Let us know if you have any specific questions about gameplay, painting, fluff or anything else!

If your goal is to save money and time and get a force up as quickly as possible, I would check out this much beloved thread.

As for how to arm your Skinks and which battalions/starhosts to aim for my understanding is that it is based more on your personal playstyle than ironclad rules of what is "best." I am a bit of an old ham who prefers 8th edition, but many wise forumites can help you analyze the tactical implications of various Seraphon unit and starhost choices.

    Welcome aboard,

Sound like you have a plan.

If your taking Skink in a max unit i.e 40 you want Boltspitter and shields, must run Boltspitter and shields in smaller units as well as you are not using them for damage more blockers and objective grabbers, Skinks are fast and with the wary fighter trait very good at tieing up the opposition just when you need it.

Shadowstrike is fantastic especially with 6 rippers.

I'd say you have already a solid idea, and I can tell that your plan is sound: wIth the current set of rules, those purchases are good.

Welcome to Lustria... out of curiosity, what armies do you have in 40K?

Thanks for the replies and the welcome, I read over the Start Collecting thread, and I am definitely going to take some ideas from it.

In 40k I've been playing Dark Angels, sometimes with Knights for some extra punch.

I will probably build a set of skinks with the boltspitters and then magnetize the second bunch to have the option to take javelins though I will stop if it becomes tedious.

    Welcome!

Mass Skinks with Boltspitters are better than people sometimes give them credit for.
I usually go for all Boltspitters+Shields. Yes, Javelins are a tiny bit better for small units, but going all Boltspitters+Shields makes it easier to handle. No checking which weapons you have.
I have magnetized tons of my stuff, but not Skinks. That would probably drive me insane.

I suppose IK, not GK... am I right?

yeah, shield + boltsplitter is the most useful set-up

Yes imperial knights, mostly run an aux with a Gallant or a Warden.

Welcome! You certainly have far more of a plan than I had when I started collecting seraphon stuff, kudos on your preparedness!
