Skink starpriest: 80 - General - Nimble - Gryph feather charm 40x Skinks: 240 - Boltspitters & clubs 10x Skinks: 60 - Javelins & bucklers 6x ripperdactyls: 280 4x Razordons / 4x Salamanders / Troglodon: 160 (Cant really decide, leaning most towards the razordons) Shadowstrike Starhost: 180 What do you think?
I would change the Command Trait to: Master of Star Rituals. And definitely take the Razordons. I have fielded an identical 1k Shadowstrike list at 3 small ITC events this year and gone 14-1 so far. The last event some of the players knew I would be there and specifically built list to counter Shadowstrike. At 1k there is almost nothing that can deal with it.
Yeah, razors have the enormous advantage that you can teleport them and, even with a 3-4, they will be able to shoot the intended target.
How would reducing the skinks to fit in more razordons work? Might be tough to hold objectives. I have 4 razors so far. Kitbashing more from Knights and extra razor heads (for my 2k lists). Skink Starpriest 4x Razordons 4x Razordons 10x Skinks 10x Skinks 6x Ripperdactyls Shadowstrike 980
Here is the list I pretty much always run at 1k: Allegiance: Seraphon - Mortal Realm: Ghur LEADERS: Skink Starpriest (80) - General - Command Trait : Master of Star Rituals - Artefact : Gryph-feather Charm UNITS: 6 x Ripperdactyl Riders (280) 4 x Razordons (160) 40 x Skinks (240) -Boltspitters & Star Bucklers 10 x Skinks (60) -Meteoric Javelins & Star Bucklers BATTALIONS: Shadowstrike Starhost (180) TOTAL: 1000/1000
Sorry for the maybe stupid question, but how could you teleport the Razors without a Slann using Lords of Space and Time? Can you use that Battle Trait even if there are no Slann on the board?
Our allegiance ability: Lords of Space and Time, does not require a Slann to be present. The fluff text mentions Slann, but the rules do not state that one is needed in the army. Presumably, they are off in the Spaceship doing it from a distance.
I think this is the best list for 1000 points. But what would we add for a 1250 vanguard tournament? Im leaning towards 10 Chameleon skinks for the battalion. To have a guaranteed Shooting punch (skinks could be out of range or you fail LoST for razors) Although having just one heroe is though for some battleplans. But I guess your goal is just to kill the other heroes. And you waste an item. Is 80 skinks the way to go? Drop a razor and add a skink (star)priest+pallisade?
Add a Slann Starmaster. You will be able to make use of your Second Artifacts slot, you will have a back up plan in the form of summoning, you gain three extra unbinds, and you can make use of realm spells if the event is set on Realms of Battle. You would have to drop some skinks though.
Although I love the slann. In this list it doenst feel like he complements it. It feels more like a hamstring when you have to ditch some skinks. I’d like some units that covers the achilles heel of this list. But I do not have any experience yet with the shadowstrike. So the main question would be is, when people play the shadowstrike, what is the main problem you face? Things I can think of: - screen units - after cleaningup 1 unit, not having a toad for the second unit - rippers getting counter charged after destroying one unit - just not enough firepower from the skinks and razordons to clear a second unit - objectives?
The main problem presented by playing Shadowstrike Starhost in the 1k range is that you have no recourse after your initial attack is spent. The Rippers are a Glass Hammer and will break within the next turn or two. Having only the Skinkstar Priest will make you some what limited on the objective game because you will only have access to one Hero and one instance of LoSaT. That is actually why I recommenced the Slann. The Celestial Configuration from the Slann and his command ability are both very helpful. During the first two of three turns you should be able to generate enough Celestial Conjuration Points to replenish you ranks. And you can take the Great Remember trait to help with objectives in addition to gaining a second hero unit with an artifact in the event you play Duality of Death, Places of Arcane Power, ect. You will also gain three unbinds, which can be huge. If you want to fully commit to winning via tabling your opponent early then you should just bring more Razordons or more Ripperdactyls. You will however risk finding yourself in an unwinnable game of Duality of Death if you don't have more than one wizard/hero/artifact-bearer.
