Was thinking about using these when summoning from EoTG.
Since the rippers get the bloat toad when they are place on deployment, does this effect there are worth?

The Terradon still get there Boulder drop special.

    Welcome to Lustria Online!

Both units are fantastic. Rippers slightly edge out Terradons in my opinion, but it is close. The issue is that both units are glass hammers and Rippers generally deliver more than Terradons do in a single turn.

In matched play the rippers are usually better as they fit their role best: they are a perfect flying melee glass cannon.
And they are killer is summoned turn 1.

Rippers are exceptional also when summoned in later turns, bot ONLY if you already have a bloat toad on the battlefield near a target.

Personally I summon Rippers if I get the EoTG off on turn one as an automatic. it will bring the toad and there is zero reason to choose a Ripper with toad over a terra. on turn 2 and subsequent however I evaluate my need for mortal wounds. we have a rather limited number of units that can deal MW's... and while terradon's have some reliability issues... they have that 14" move which means they can deliver those mortal wounds where ever you need them to be (with LoSaT), which is very important with the nerfs to Kroak, completely unreliable ark of sotek, and the need to protect the EoTG which actually has decent range and mortal wounds delivery systems with some reliability if you also have a slann nearby.

I like Terradons better. They look cooler.

....but yeah Rippers are probably better in most cases.

If there's no toad on the field rippers & terradons will do very similar damage per turn. Terradons have a slightly higher maximum output with bola's, though that's unreliable at best.

Beyond that terradons still have their boulders which will Always be useable, toads or not.

Rippers do have the advantage of having a shield though, which can help.

Anyways, in the end it basicly just boils down to if you already have some toads out or not. If your rippers won't be able to fight near a toad they're weaker than a fresh unit of terradons.

now i wonder if a toad can be teleported via LoSaT (pretty sure not, but I need to check if it's feasible). That would be massive.

The GHB says "pick a friendly Seraphon unit" I'd assume toads are not units, nor are they technically seraphon as they have no warscroll and thus no keyword.

On the other hand, an argument could be made they're part of the ripper unit you deployed it with. So you could potentially get away with claiming you teleport the entire unit, toad included. admittadly it's a bit of a stretch but I can't think of another excuse.

Normaly I would say: teleport the toad? It is a marker so no wat!

But I just reread the text and it says: Blot toads do not count as ENEMY MODELS to either side. So according to this text they are a model.

Though they function loose from the unit, so I would guess teleporting the toad would be possible.
And use the other teleport for your Rippers.

But you have to place the toad 9 inch away from enemy units sadly.

(This is indeed going to be faqed quickly)

You can not use LoSaT on the Bloat Toad. They are markers that can move. They do no count as a unit or part of one.

I wouldn't play it otherwise, but for the sake of a healthy discussion/thinkprocess.

Where does it say that they are markers or not count as a unit?

It is not stated anywhere directly. The reason events rule them as markers is because the nomenclature for how they operate had no yet been implemented by Jervis Johnson. Them being declared as: "Bloat Toads do not count as enemy models to either side" is they type of language previously used by GW to describe markers. Bloat Toads also have no stats or warscroll and thus are not a unit.

And even if they are a unit, then you still cannot LoSaT them because they lack a warscroll, so they don't have any keywords, which means they lack the required Seraphon keyword.

Arguably they are part of the ripper warscroll. Hence why I said you could teleport the entire unit, rippers and all. But it's still a massive stretch, and I doubt anyone will really allow you to.

And to be honest, with the 9" distance requirement it's fairly pointless anyway. Unless your opponent is kind enough to run towards the new position they won't be in range of the toad for 2-3 turns anyways.

It is definitely not part of the Ripper unit. Otherwise you would have to keep unit cohesion. Not to mention the myriad of other problems related to battle-shock ect.

Part of the unit, but not a model, so it has certain exceptions. Similar to how the various war machines wouldn't be subject to battleshock, but their crew is. Admittadly I might be getting the rules for the warmachines wrong, don't really play with em. But it'd make sense and I can't think of any other examples where there's a seperate part of a unit that could detach in some way.

It would be nice (after the killing of the primary target), to teleport the toad on an unsecured objective, thus threatening any enemy unit that wants to take it.

The only part in favor is the "Blaot toads do not count as enemy models to either side". If it's not enemy, then it counts as ally, no? so i can target it, and it's described in the warscroll of the Rippers, so the keyword are thereā€¦
But yeah, no way you can go with it. :p
