It was. And to be honest: I want a AoS video game with all that stuff he mentioned, eventually.
    But not instead of TWW3.

To be honest he does a terrible job at selling it, but yeah the various realms could be interesting. Would make for an interesting map at least. Plus I'd love to actually have more natural choke-points on the map. There's several factions I never end up playing cuz there starting positions are far too much of a pain and you end up at war with half the world and no mountains or anything to cover your back and keep you at least somewhat safe.

One or two year from now, it will actually happen.

    Mark my words.

Towards the end it becomes increasingly obvious that it is a joke. However, most of the video is inline with his style and presentation of Total War: Warhammer series.

It was a good gag. :)

Don't worry though, I'm sure it is on the horizon. Maybe not as quickly as @Cristhian MLR predicts, I'd say within 5 years though.

1 or 2 years is definitly too quickly. Warhammer III isn't even out yet, and with all the DLC and such that's going to be around for a while before a succesor will even be announced. I am curious though what they'l do with the fantasy side of TW though. Stuff like monsters and magic did add quite a lot to the game and I'd like to see more of that.

I think you will see more of that. AoS is more of "high fantasy", so you wouldn't be able to create a game around it without more magic and monsters.

True, the only issue is that AoS would again lack a sense of progression with respect to troops. Treating the elite units from the tabletop as the late game units for a TW game results in weird situations for certain armies. Needing a tier III city at minimum to recruite anything other than basic skinks & saurus as the lizardmen for example means that for the early game your army just barely functions and you can't really do anything smarter than just throwing them at your enemy. After all, all you have is basic infantry.

And that is imho the biggest drawback at using an established universe for a TW game. Fantasy stories rarely if ever have enough of a history worked out to be able to get the same sense of unit progression that you have in a historical TW game, while also Always having acces to a functional army at all times.

Though an alternative could be to use the basic mechanics the tomb kings use. They can field an infinite amount of basic skeletons, but for everything fancier they need to build a building, and having 1 of those buildings gives acces to say, 2 archer units. Having 2 buildings would give you acces to 4. And so on. Using that to give acces to elite, but core to the general strategy of the faction, units could be given even in the relative early game by just having a base-value that increases with more buildings (e.g. you need a tier IV building for more carno's but you can Always have at least 1)

I am not sure the TW way of doing things would be that great for an AoS game.

It might be, but I think the game mechanics of a pure RTS game like StarCraft or a RTS/RPG hybrid game like Spellforce 3 (played that recently) could be a better fit.

to be honest id love a genuine version of the tabletop as a videogame, would make playing a lot easier. Though that just seems unlikely.

GW would never do that, it would stop sales of models at least that's what I think.

Why spend hundreds of pounds on models when you can spend £50 and sit at home playing it, I know there is the painting side etc but people who just love playing could just play the video game, or it could work the other way like TW2 has shown.

They could use the same approach their card game has, where cards give you a code that can be used to have the unit in the videogame as well. Only issue is that'd make the cost of entry massivly high for a videogame...

Just speaking theoretically, as i hate the idea.

a certain amount of units could be given for free (battleline, some heroes, one artillery-type, one behemoth), then further models could be unlocked only by purchasing a real one. Without restrictions on the number (for example, i buy a single box of rippers, in the videogame i unlock the rippers and i can field 12 of them)

I'm pretty sure there is already something where you can play against your friends in tabletop style, might be a KOW thing.

There's a game where you simulate having a table and can play various (user made) board games on it. I saw someone made a 40K variant for it. But I also heard that GW has a tendency of shutting those kinda projects down since they're not official.

I don't like the TW mods that make it closer to the tabletop. They tend to forget that TW isn't the tabletop and can't work the exact same way. So you end up with weird things and ridiculously overpowered or underpowered units. Or for example a broken economy cuz your elite (but very crucial to your overall strategy) units are stupidly expensive.

:oldman: so.... I bought a new computer last weekend. I bought my old laptop in spring of 2013, and my new one? Wow, I am shocked by the speed of how fast this thing loads. And the graphics? Wow. When I used to play TWW1 I never realized how clunky and slow the on-screen models were moving until I got this new one!

That being said, my new laptop is finally advanced to play TWW2, which I also purchased a few weeks ago at a tremendous steam discount! And I am thrilled to be conquering the world as the Lizardmen!

Been chugging through a campaign (at the second-to-last ritual now) and am being swarmed by chaos/lizardmen. Prior to this I have been in a three-way power struggle between me (Mazdamundi), Pirate Coast, and the skaven for control of the Lustrian interior. It culminated in an epic battle against Lord Harkon himself (at Itza), who when his entire army was defeated he charged Mazdamundi in a last-ditch effort to snatch victory from me.

great way to end a battle.png

Picture shows the exact second Harkon disappeared due to Mazdamundi's magics (and the two solar engines firing at him to win the day!)

Well, Magic The Gathering has Arena, and they sell cards there too - so you could sell some of the models. Like you give people enough core to play an all-core + 1 character 1000pt game. If you want to make it a serious game, you have to purchase the models.

The problem is that MTG is an ongoing game, meaning new releases mean $$$$. Since Warhammer isn't....

Damn it I wanted to be the first to mention it.

Also, this one looks particularly awesome. It also includes several new proper units. Which by the sounds of it might fill some of the gaps in the skaven and lizardmen roster
