I'm playing another 3000 point game in a couple of weeks and looking again at my lists. Has anyone tried the Crew of the Embers Dance yet? For those not familiar with it you get 3 x Corsair Troops, 1 x Firebrand and all get +1 hit ranged, Elite, +1 Nerve and Firebrands presence makes them Fearless. All that costs 495 points. In the previous games I've felt I was too defensive on my flanks and wondered if this may be an good force to stage a threat there. It likely means reducing my centre a bit (perhaps only 1 Tyrants unit), losing Artakl and trimming my chaff / Lekelidon units to accommodate them.
Hey, I played this formation on tourney. But it was first time, then no best result, but some ideas you can find there. http://www.lustria-online.com/threads/tribal-tournament-cok-2019-2000pts.22586/ And then in some later games - they are great, you can play them like normal chaff, moving heavy shotting horde, or like supporting sidechargers (with shooting) for bigger unit. Firebrand in this formation is really monster too, she can stay against charges of smaller units for 1-2 rounds and put serious damage.
Thanks for the feedback. In my previous games against the same opponent he's gone for double envelopment on both occasions, so I'm expecting the same again. I'm wondering how fragile they are as they will have to take a charge probably. At 500 points it to much to be chaff so they really need to hurt the enemy. It sounds from your battle report like they were able to basically destroy one opponent in the first move if they get a shot off
With support from Firebrand (and I also play CL from Ancient Ispiring) they are really not fragile, when fighting with first line of lighter units. Mainly in hintered charge. They always won. In the last battle of that tourney they shot down regiment of abbysal horsemen and broke enemy line to two separate block, which was easy to kill. I use them somentimes as tip of spear for my heavier and slower units.
I am tempted to try them as the modelling possibilities are good. I also like Ancients but like to use the CL with banner of the Griffin to accompany by AORs as -/20 with the Rallying(2) makes um tough to beat.
I played this way. All our heavy hitters (Tyrant, FE and especially AoR) are great sidekicks to Ancient formation, All are about /20 and AoR with staying stone are nearly unbreakable.
I do like them, nut due to the short range you have to accept that they are going to die and play accordingly so they don't die in vain
