Hello everyone! I got a ton of work done on the scaly bois today! I’ll only post a few pics are my Saurus Knight conversions with a quick tutorial. The base model is Khorn Flesh Hounds. My process is cut off the tail, spikes and/or hair on the top, glue a piece of wire to the stump of the tail, then green stuff the general shape of the tail.

The tail is a bit tricky. I have found the easiest way is to carve (or more accurately push) the shape of the scales into the tail while it’s drying. It’s better to do it all at the same time as opposed to adding another layer of green stuff after the tail is dry. I may have made some of the tails a bit too long...but I like the look of them.

I am in no way a pro with GS so I’m figuring it out as I go!

I started basing 4 out of the 5 knights. I had to figure out a way to base some of the more awkward action poses in a way that makes sense. The leaping guy will be jumping over a log. I can’t wait to get the scales on these guys’ backs so I can mount the riders!

Let me know what you guys think of them so far and I’m open to any suggestions for using green stuff.

Thanks! I actually got more work done on the knights this weekend. I don’t have any pictures to post yet, but all of their tails are done, they are all mounted on bases, and I finished the scales on one of them! I still need to do scales on three more, but I think I’m going to work on two riders. Sculpting is tedious work....

Looking good, but I think the bone parts would benefit from a light sepia or brown wash.

Edit: also the Eternity Warden picture is not showing for me.

Whops I meant Ashtrolith Barer! My bad. Eternity Warden only has his skin painted and isn’t based yet, but I’ll post an update once that is done. I got carried away with the knights so he was put on the back burner for a bit lol

I haven’t done any washes on the Astrolith Barer yet. With bones, I normally do a light wash of black in the most recessed parts (such as the eyes), then a couple coats of brown wash over the whole thing focusing on where the shadows would be. I’m also going to try to wetblend the tips of the horns white so we will see how that goes.

I plan on weathering the gold down some (it’s SUPER shiny yellow right now), blue wash on the scales/skin, highlight the edges of the scales, and trying to wetblend the feathers from a bright green to yellow. I still have a long way to go before he is finished, but I plan to get home done by the end of the month

Yo! It’s me again. Got more work done on my Saurus Knights! I need to repose the drummer in front, but I’ll to that tomorrow. I may have gone a little nuts on the hero.....

That was one of the first tails I did about two months ago (before I got burned out and tabled the project) and I didn’t support it with wire. I was really hoping that I could get away with a smooth tail on him, but as I built up the hero, the back end just looked unfinished. I’ll have to see what my options are when I have time. I don’t want to have to resculpt the whole thing

What ever was your process, you should feel proud of the fact that they look way better than the official saurus knights. Keep up the awesome work!

If you give the tail an interesting paint job it should work.

My initial thought would be to straight up carve some scales like I did the other ones and see how that looks. I have only ever made scales while the green stuff is still pliable so I’m not sure how it will look. I may try to do it with a box cutter blade instead of my exacto knife to make the gap between the scales bigger.

If that doesn’t look good, then plan B is to take tiny balls of green stuff, flatten them onto the tail and make individual scales. I feel like that process would take longer, but I’m in it to win it! Really proud of the way these guys are turning out and it’s worth the extra time to make them look perfect

Plus, if it looks bad, I can just hide it with a cool paint job ;)

What about the tails from the Drakespawn kit you have? I know they don't curl quite as cool as your custom tails, but they might save time.

Never saw a conversion like that before :wideyed:

Cool concept for the standard bearer! I like the work you did for his massive stegadon helmet.

    Wow. :wideyed::wideyed::wideyed:

Great use of bits and green stuff! His pose and the pieces you used look fantastic!

Can't wait to see this guy painted up.

Hello! I didn’t do too much last night, but I did get scales on the tail of my hero. I pulled his head and arm off so it will be easier to paint. I also (for the most part) finished the drummer of the unit and I think he looks pretty cool! I plan on adding green stuff straps to the icons on my hero’s tail. They are slowly but surely coming together.

Thanks for pushing me to get the tail done! It looks a lot better now.

Anything I should change/add to me design of these guys? Is the hero too busy? I think it should be fine once he is painted up. It won’t look like such a mass of gray
